TOPIC: Virus detected by AVG

Re: Virus detected by AVG 13 years 7 months ago #36080

www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro...esslibrary/wmiprvse/ shows that' it's a needed Windows file. Is it giving you the name of the Trojan?

I have read that some viruses disguise themselves as need files. The AVG calls it a trojan horse. Look at the image in my first post and the new image here. I posted the Trojan name in my first post but here it is Trojan horse Crypt_c.BDY

Mike,
How about an update? Did you ever get this resolved? I have been getting attacked with Trojans for the last couple of months. One I could never get rid of completely, and it would propagate every couple of days.

Mine finally got resolved when two weeks ago, it finally corrupted enough files and the harddrive, that my laptop is toasted. I just received my replacement laptop.

Was AVG the only AV you were running? I will be starting another thread to get advice/discuss AV/Spyware/Malware programs.

Hope it went better for you...
Jeff

I ran Malwarebytes, Spybot, Adaware and AVG. I did not get a message or anything saying it was removed, but I must have gotten it because it does not show up anymore. I really can't explain it. Maybe it is still there for all I know.

Another victim of free AV software.  Time to bite the bullet and buy a full version.

I recommend PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.  No need for Spybot then.  $40 per year for 2 computers.

People complain about "lowballers".  And we tell them...........  you get what you pay for....  :o

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

I used to use the paid versions of Norton and Spyware Doctor with Antivirus, I changed to Kaspersky after Spyware Doctor would not detect a virus, and Kaspersky removed it. They do the same thing as AVG. If you are using only one application then you are most likely not protected, no one application will detect all malware and viruses.

Stephen,
I went with your recommendation a couple of months ago of Spyware Dr. w/AV... It was able to locate the Trojan, but was not able to remove it. It did help me control the situation from spreading for a while. (Yes, I followed all your other suggestions also, which I greatly appreciate your help). I also installed Trend Micro, which also helped, but conflicted with the Spyware software. I also have used the paid version of AVG, and worked very well, until this latest nasty arrived. I never did discover what the name of it was. Just a Trojan Horse in Hidden Files.
