Laptop, notebook,tablet 13 years 11 months ago #32218

Group help,

I am still doing inspections the old fashioned way. Do the field work and then type the inspection from my home office PC at night. That worked fine when i started the business back in October and was only :'( doing 2-3 inspections per week. I am now doing 7-8 home inspections and 3-4 insurance inspections per week and it is killing me time wise in that I am unable to get clients to schedule the days first inspection before 10:00 am so i don't get back to the office before 5:30 grab a bite of dinner and then have 4 hours of reporting to do. If I'm going to get to where I want to be which is 10 home inspections and 6-8 insurance inspections per week (preferably monday thru friday Ha!) I'm going to have to start doing at least part if not all of the reports in the field. Which is where i need your guys and gals input. Which machine works best for you laptop,notebook, or tablet? Thanks in advace for you input

Hi Mark,

Glad to see you on the forums! Check out the CTL2Go thread. That is the preferred tablet. Best functionality & price. Tablets are better for data entry as you can tap and write on the screen or use the keyboard if you want.

Mark:

A Tablet is the only way to go. I got mine about two weeks ago and I have spent many hours of editing comments and formatting. I have done three sample inspections on the tablet and I am confident enough in my work and editing now to do the next inspection with it. By now you have a good idea of the comments you will note the majority of the time. Of course you will always encounter something new but go thru the template and edit out any comments that you will never or rarely use (snow load in Florida) and get it slimmed down. The new, never before seen issue can be written in on site. The other benefit of spending the time getting your comments just the way you want them is you will get a good handle on the tablet and the software. I anticipate being able to proof and edit any mistakes/errors I haven't already corrected as I did the inspection, upload the Report, load the truck and be on the road within 15/20 minutes after completing the inspection and wishing my Client all the best. You may think you don't have the time to spend right now learning something new but it will be worth it. Go for it.

Mark;

Tablet is the only way to go, as others have said.

Get yourself a prortable printer, I have a Canon IP 100, print on site and on to the nest one.

Beer or vino and TV in the evening ;D

Cheers
