TOPIC: TEXAS! TEXAS! TEXAS!

TEXAS! TEXAS! TEXAS! 14 years 7 months ago #22324

With all the formats and Templates that are available, it is becoming more and more frustrating to find a Texas template to where the inspection can be done room by room and/or by a system that does not make the Texas template take so much time to fill out!   :'(  There was a program that I had got for a PDA that made the program be able to go room by room and then automatically enter the inspection into a report for the systems that the state requires.  The problem with the reporting system was that it lacked any type of narratives or template with all the needed entries for a decent report and I gave up after spending hours on trying to make it work.  Is there any way that HIP can make a Texas template that automatically makes the entries into a "System and Components" profile from doing a inspection that most inspectors do as they walk around and in the structure?  Another words,, I start from the exterior of the house from the roof down,,,then from the front door around to the front door again as I examine the structure.  Then I go into the attic structure.  I try to get the "Hot" work done first so that I don't lose 15 pounds every inspection.  The problem is that I constantly have to change Template screens for the systems instead of just entering the problem with each area and it automatically enter into the system profile required by TREC.  I realize that Texas administration doesn't get it,,,but if the program could adjust to our needs,,it would save so much time, so that I could spend time with my family.  :-X  Is there anyone that knows how I can do this or has a template to do this.  I have tried but if I click the Texas template boxes for the program,,I cannot make any changes to the the template.  I am getting old and maybe I am not doing things right here but could use some ideas or some training on getting this done so that my cost per inspection can be reduced by saving more time.
Don't mean to complain Dom.   Just thinking that maybe I am doing something wrong.  I LOVE THE HIP POGRAM!  I will not stop using it.  Just looking to streamline my time and expense.

Hi Wayne,

I know what you're saying. Unfortunately TREC requires the System by System. Most inspectors in other states use a hybrid System & Room report. We do have a lot of inspectors in Texas that are getting through the inspection and finishing on site but I know that flipping around from system to system does slow things down.

We do have this listed in the plans where you could enter the data room by room and have it mapped into a system by system format but it's a little ways off as we have several other large features to finish up first. It's also not an easy thing to do at all as right now the template follows the reporting format exactly, so it's almost like creating an entirely new program.

Wayne......  If you only knew the combination of curse words that Dom uses when working on the TREC requirements you would blush.

It took numerous emails and phone calls to get him to stop including the texas template on all the updates.

Oh the template is still getting added in there. You're just not getting all the docs any more :)

Dom,

Any update on this?  There is another program that is allowing exactly this, and I know several inspectors that are moving to it.  I personally love HIP and want it to be the number 1 Texas software.

Thanks!

Texas is about to completely change the TREC form, I've even heard there's discussions on abandoning it so we're not making any Texas changes until TREC makes a decision. We definitely have a ton of Texas inspectors and even quite a few schools and guys on the TREC advisory committee using HIP so we definitely make sure to take care of you guys.
