TOPIC: Insurance Adjusters

Re: Insurance Adjusters 15 years 1 month ago #10386

I can see that.  I don't really want to be a public adjuster, I'm lookin more at the independent adjuster side of things.  I just started reading the book and I'll see how if this is something I want to do or not.

What I would really like to do is appraisals.  But here in Oklahoma you have to work under someone for a certain number of hours and no one will hire you because they want to keep things in the family and friends.

Its that way in PA too. I thinks its around 500 hours under a licenced appreiser then, after that you have to take a test to become certified and licenced.

I wouldn't mind seeing them do that with HI.  We could raise our prices then!  lol

Also, if you want to "fill your down time", do any of you do Draw inspections? Maybe this has been talked about in another thread, but since I'm still fairly new here I have not ventured much beyond the web building and SEO threads. In case you are not familiar, Draw inspections are inspections on new construction houses throughout the various phases of construction. The term "Draw" comes from whenever someone is requesting more money from the lenders, or a "draw".

They don't pay a lot (it varies from $35-$50 a pop) but you only spend 10-15 min. at the property, take between 10 & 20 photos, download them to a website and enter some quick percentages for completed items (roof is 50% complete, foundation is 100% complete, drywall / insulation is 75%, ext. / int. painting 25% etc.) They send you the request and you typically have 24-48 hours to complete it. You don't have to schedule a time or meet anyone on site (99% of the time) so it is really quick and easy to fit into your schedule before, after, or in between inspections (It's like making a few extra bucks on an inspection you just did if you can work it that way).

I was getting about 5 or so of these a week before the whole down turn in housing market and new construction, it has died off somewhat. Not a huge money maker and I know some people will say "I'm not getting in my truck for only $35", but like i said for me I can always fit it in before or after an inspection, or I have even taken 15 min out of a shopping trip w/ the family or on our way to dinner to make a few quick bucks. The way I look at it, it at least helps pay some bills (like gas) that I would have had to pay out of my pocket otherwise, so worth looking into, IMO. On occasion, I have ran into the home owner on site and handed out my business card to have a home inspection done once construction is complete. Good way to market builder warranty inspections as well. Think about it.

Indiana is that way to...I first looked into appraising but realized HI was easier to get licensed and go out on your own...who wants to train someone to be a competitor?

Yeah I started to set up an account with a couple of companies to do these.  I just want quite sure how it would work and the emails I got from them almost seemed like spam so I didn't do it.

Who did you go through?
