I know a light switch can not be inside the shower area. I did an inspection on a new construction and this switch was on the shower wall, Contractor says it's ok. The edge of the shower is directly below and slightly outside the switch. You do have to go around the corner for the shower area but one of the shower heads can spay on the switch. Any thoughts??

The NEC states: "Switches shall not be installed within wet locations in tub or shower spaces unless installed as part of a listed tub or shower assembly."

As long as the switch is even 1/16 of an inch outside the zone, it is fine. The zone would be the footprint of the shower pan, straight up from the outside edge to the ceiling.

While allowed, due to the metal screws, I would recommend it be GFCI protected.
