TOPIC: Using the computer to report exterior findings

Using the computer to report exterior findings 12 years 10 months ago #41953

I finally have developed my HIP program to the point where I can almost exclusively do all of my reporting via the computer. My only problem is in my exterior reporting. I cannot see the screen well enough in the sunlight, or sometimes even the shade, to do my reporting on my computer. I'm forced to take notes and then transfer the information to my program, which adds more time; approximately an extra 20 minutes to half an hour, not to mention the delay that it causes my clients and their agents. I'm still completing most of my reports, excluding the photo insertion, in about three and a half hours, which is pretty good I guess, except I am having to delay the inspection in order to add the exterior notes. If I could figure out a way to do the complete report using only the computer, I'm quite sure that I could do it all, accept for the pictures, in 3 hours or less. During a normal inspection, I feel I could do the report and add photo's in three and a half hours or less if I could figure out a way to use the computer at the exterior. Has anyone had this problem and figured out a way to rectify that problem?

Make sure your brightness is turned all the way up. All laptops/tablets will automatically dim when you unplug them. Crank the light up to see better outside.

Thanks for the input. I've been trying what you suggest, but I can't figure out how to do it. Can you possibly walk me through it?

Ed

What computer are you using?

Do you arrive early for the inspection?

I arrive at least 45 minutes early. I do the exterior inspection and take pics. I then find a place to enter the exterior data on the computer. I find a shady spot like a garage, porch.

I use the camera for my notes. ! also carry a clip board with the sketch of the property and note directions and any water/grading issues.

Yup, what David said. I need to know what machine you're using.

I'm using the 2GOPC...I also try to get to the inspections early when I can, but that's not possible for me on many occassions...
