TOPIC: Redirect Virus

Re: Redirect Virus 13 years 6 months ago #36302

Did you ever find out the name of the virus? That's an extremely rare measure to have to take.

I found an official name somewhere when I was trying to remove it myself but I don't remember what it was.

I  contacted tech support at my ISP (Bell Sympatico). One of their tecnicians spent more than an hour trying to get rid of it (remote) with no luck. He said he had it too.

Wound up taking the computer to a local shop.  The guys there spent a day trying to remove it with no luck.  The guy told me he tried about 13 diffrent removal tools, some would not even linstall, like the trouble I had.

I have a feeling this thing was disguised as a Abobe Flash upgrade that poped up when I was looking at a video.
Beware!!!

Cheers

Yeah popups are the biggest problem as they look VERY real. I'd get Carbonite so you always have an online backup. For $5 a month, you can't beat it.

I have a secondary hard drive in my desktop computer, so I save all my VERY important files there.

Everything was saved there so I didn't loose any files or data but it was a bit of a pain putting everything back together.

A good power surge can fry your secondary drive as well, even with surge protector and backup battery. For $5 a month you can't beat carbonite!
