TOPIC: BSOD and carbonite

BSOD and carbonite 14 years 7 months ago #21269

I DL'd the trial of Carbonite to check out the service and because I want a backup that is off site. It was fine until it started the back up, 2 minutes into it i got the BSOD with Bad_Pool_Header. I tried about 8 times to restart and got the same thing. I finally was able to remove carbonite and everything seems to be back to normal now. From what I can find, that error is a hardware error, I think. I checked on carbonite site, but they have nothing about it. Anybody know anything?

BSOD are always hard to diagnose. Install it and try it again. I've heard good things. I only use Cobian Backup.

I use Cobian to bakup to my external drive, but I want something off site in case I have something happen here, like a fire, that could lose all my data. From what I was abor to find out on the Bad Pool Header; it has something to do with the drives and mirror or shadow. Some of the other back up programs have the same problem. I went in and did as it said, which was to go to device manager, click view, click show hidden devices, go to storage devices and delete them all, then restart so they re install. I will let you know if that works.

Dom, do you back up off site?

OK I reloaded the trial version of Carbonite. It seems that the process I followed in the previous post may have worked. The backup is running, should take a few days, 20.7G to back up. But I have not gotten the BSOD yet. I will keep you guys posted.

Yes, I use Cobian Backup to ftp my data to one of my servers off site. Obviously this won't work for most guys though. I also use Cobian to backup your websites to a Buffalo Terrabyte system back at my house.

I think it is a good idea to backup off site. Anyway it seems to be working. The miracle is that I figured it out. Hopefully this will help anyone else that has this issue.
