TOPIC: Original Photos in Mobile Version

Re: Original Photos in Mobile Version 10 years 10 months ago #54208

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.  I really like Mobile HIP in the field.  I have always used a Kodak digital camera set to take a 1.1mp picture (smallest setting on the camera).  Pictures have worked great in HIP.  My tablet has a 3mp camera.  I tried using it for pictures in HIP.  When I take the picture and view it on the tablet, it looks great.  However, when the report is uploaded/downloaded to the PC, the pictures looked crappy.  What is happening to the pictures?  Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a way to make the pictures from the tablet have better quality.  The other problem with the tablet camera is the lack of a flash.  It was very hard to use in a dark crawl space and those pictures were really bad.  Sounds like Cameron is having better luck with the IPad mini.  Can you upload a sample report so I can see the pictures?  Thanks.

3.0 megapixels is not so small that the photos would necessarily be bad in terms of resolution, but the camera itself may just not handle light and exposure very well. The first thing I would check is your photo quality in you template on the desktop. Go to "Report Settings" at the menu bar and then "Options" and in the options window select the "Picture Editing" tab. Set the Photo quality to "3". If it was on 1 or 2 that may explain your photo quality. If not, I would focus on a couple other things.

This may sound basic, but make sure the lens on the camera isn't smudged. A woman who lives in my house who wears a ring like mine but will remain nameless  ;D took blurry photos for two weeks before I had her look at the lens. It was filthy.

The only other suggestion I have is to get a zoomable flashlight which can flood an area with light and use that instead of the flash on the camera or a spot type flashlight.

Tablet cameras have no zoom. Make sure you're not using the digital zoom. Also make sure the pic isn't blurry when you look at it large on the tablet. Camerons suggestions are great !

I wonder if tablets will ever have optical zoom, I'm betting not because they would stick out and get damaged all the time.

I have found that with the new 8Mp Iphone 5 camera you can use the digital zoom to about 40% and still get a really good photo, assuming you have enough light.

They just need to make that Samsung in a 6-7 inch size screen and you would have a perfect inspection tool.
