TOPIC: Original Photos in Mobile Version

Original Photos in Mobile Version 10 years 10 months ago #54077

Dom, would it be possible to set up HIP mobile to send an original photo to the photo folder as well as shrinking it and inserting it into the inspection?  I once had a panorama app which had that option, it saved the photo within the app but sent a full sized copy to the photo folder too.

I realized today that I cannot review photos with my clients onsite because there are only icons of the photos in the program. I use the review to prep clients with the photos they will see in the report and save myself the time of walking through the house a second time to show every issue to clients.

Would this be useful to anybody else?

The new version has a summary feature which allows you to flip through all pics with one button. We have guys testing this on Android already, works great.

Hey Dom,

I've been using the Mobile HIP for a couple weeks on the Ipad Mini and it's really coming along nicely. I have reviewed nearly all my sections and removed unnecessary lists or written stand alone comments for common problems in common areas while leaving the comments with lists for more unique issues. What a difference those changes make! I wasn't sure if I would take photos and caption them in the field, but once I added captions to every section I just started doing it and it goes pretty quick. I'm completing 95-99% of the report onsite and that's just because I have to fill in a few lists when I get back to the office. I actually have time on my hands at home! :)

And if that weren't enough, I'm completing the inspections faster by anywhere from 30-60 minutes. And the app is killer smooth on the Ipad mini. I feel bad for some of the freezing up some guys are talking about because it just isn't happening with the mini. Just wanted to give the HIP crew an "atta boy".

Now after buttering you up...  ;D

Relating to the photos and I guess also the comment editing in the mobile version, I wondered about the graphical flipping, sliding up of the screen, shutter opening, sliding sideways of the screen, page peeling up; Are those transitions all necessary to please Apple or are they to allow background processing to occur? I gotta admit, I'm sitting there with my finger hovering waiting for all these transitions to finish so I can move on with the reporting and inspecting.

Can a future option be to eliminate those transitions and just have the screen switch when navigating? Maybe I'm impatient, but I just want the next page when I hit that button. I think these are the first signs of "grumpy old man" syndrome in me. :)

And one more thought about taking and captioning photos. I noticed something right away when doing photos and captioning them on the fly. I put together a little graphic to illustrate this. When doing a photo in the mobile version, you have to tap the screen anywhere from 6-10 times, but those taps occur all over the screen. This certainly has a learning curve to it and I'm getting better, but if I'm holding a flashlight I do a bit of juggling to tap those buttons especially if they are on opposite sides of the screen. I know you have some buttons which have to be in certain places, but it sure would simplify it if a few of those taps lined up with each other.

Thanks. :)

Regarding the transitions, those are default Apple stuff but I can see about an option to turn them off.

As far as adding pics, there's less clicks in the update. You'll like it better.

As far as kicking butt and finishing on site, great work and thanks for the kudos! The Beta android version worked around a lot of the limitations that Apple didn't have.

Hi Cameron
In your last post you say that you are getting used too and like the ipad mini. Do you find it better than the smaller iphone 5 when collecting data and photos on site.
Also I have attempted a number of times to shift away from HIP windows to hip mobile when collecting data on site, but find after one / two inspections I revert back to my tried and tested windows version. You seem to have been able to make the change successfully. What's the secret recipe.
