TOPIC: Ideas to improve photo editing and annotations

Ideas to improve photo editing and annotations 11 years 7 months ago #50337

As requested in the new feature wish list thread, here a repost of an idea, comment if you agree or have something to add. I don't know if I have requested this before, but I would love to see a few more annotation choices:

Dashed lines - Soooo useful, especially when designating where something is supposed to be.

A change or a selection of arrow styles - this one is a little frivolous I admit, but the current arrowhead is a bit clunky looking.

The ability to force a vertical or horizontal line/arrow by holding down a key (shift of ctrl) - again, so useful. when I'm putting three or more arrows on something it looks cleaner if they all look identical and they point identical directions.

Text outlines - One of the frustrations about inserting text on a photo in any program is that the photo, as a background, can vary greatly in color. To address this you can use a very pronounced color like red or yellow which will rarely be present in your photo but personally I think looks a bit over the top and adds emphasis where it may not be needed. Being able to outline text would let you use a black or white font all the time with the opposite outline and your text is readable regardless what the photo color is and is not unnecessarily pronounced.

Lastly, I've noticed the contrast feature in the photo edit doesn't really change anything but the light colors in your photos. It doesn't really darken or deepen the dark portions. This would be another useful improvement because it helps contrast cracks, deteriorated shingles, etc., and it helps add real contrast back to the photo after you brighten it which, while necessary at times, does tend to wash out the dark portions of a photo.

Hi Cameron,

All good ideas. I'm a bit confused on the text outline part though. I know what you're referring to with outlining the text but doesn't the current higlight/text background feature fix that issue?

Yes...  I just personally think it looks...  I can't think of a word.  Style-wise, it's not the slickest look for a computer program in 2012. :)  It just looks a little dated somehow.  I'm not trying to call the baby ugly but it could look better. Does that make sense?

I attached a comparison.

Yeah I know what you mean. I think the way we do it is easier to read but a bit but what you did is a little more stylish.
