TOPIC: aluminume wires

aluminume wires 14 years 3 weeks ago #30497

I just inspected a house built in about 1981.  Almost all the wires were copper except for the two circuits that control the heater and range.  They appeared to have aluminume wiring.  Other then calling it out as aluminume is there anything else I should do?

Multi-strand aluminum has no concerns and is common on those appliances.

It's solid strand aluminum which is problematic and should be called out for further evaluation.

Your picture shows multistrand and is not an issue.

Most large appliances use multi-strand aluminum.  Don't look now, but the service conductors are aluminum too.  Did they use jelly at the connection lugs?
