Scott, I like the Slide Shows also, I also like the image galleries. One of the reasons that I tried to construct them is to give the reader a reason to stay at my site. Google analytics says that the average visit time is a little over 10 min at my site now. I need to keep that up. There is really no way to say this without it sounding like whining, I cannot devote enough time to building pages like this. I just have too much to do with all the other aspects of a HI business. I think I am going to turn both my sites over to a designer and pay to have them done.  :-[

Drew,

There's several inspectors such as Greg Scheer and Bill Warner that will do it for you. I was in a conference in New York last night and asked the guys in the room using our websites how they did last month. Daren from New York said he booked SEVENTEEN jobs off his site last month, and he's a new inspector : www.homestarinspectionsny.com (paid for 17 years of website hosting hehe).

Hank at www.longislandhomeinspection.org came up after the show and told me his site booked had about doubled (Hank can correct me on the exact number he used as there were a lot of people talking to me at once).

You can use someone else to get you started but at some point you have to take over and perform the link exchanges, blogs and site keep up. You can't afford not to. AND Next time I fly all the way out to PA, NJ & NY, make sure to be there!!! We had tons of good tips to give out.

Your 10 minute average is AWESOME. You should definitely be converting clients at that time interval. Of course the more clients help. Make sure you have contact info visible on every page and keep up the link swapping.

That is very good advice and I do not want to give up the reins on my sites altogether. The SEO stuff like link exchange is very easy and I plan to do that myself. The things I want a designer to do is the features that will hopefully keep people at my site for 10 min. or more. I just am having trouble adding and adjusting those things myself and I cannot invest the time it takes to figure them out. Maybe someday I will. My oldest daughter has a friend in school whose parents own a graphic design/web design firm right in my development. They have offered to help in the past but I never wanted to be a burden to them. I am sure they will do it for free. They are getting an addition built on their house this summer and are clueless about it and have hinted they may need some consulting work done with choosing builders and so forth. Maybe there is a trade here. I am just realizing my own limitations with web development!!!

Dominic, If youfly back up to Philadelphia, or Southern NJ not only will I show up but you can even stay at my house! If you have extra time budgeted in your trip, I'll show you Atlantic City if you have never seen it. I have worked on a good number of the Casinos there.

Haha, thanks for the offer Drew :)

What you really need for your site is content, and only you can provide that. If you want ideas for the flash, just look at some of the other sites in the link exchange thread. There are a ton of good ideas there!

Dominic, speaking of slide shows how do you decrease the size of the slide show? I have one large one on the home page that takes a ton of time to download if you are still on dial up, which many are in my areas further south. I have decreased many of my photos and eliminated what I could off of the home page but cant figure out how to shrink the large slide show on my home page.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
