TOPIC: Mobile Friendly?

Re: Mobile Friendly? 9 years 6 days ago #60944

That is a big concern for me Dominic. I am on the old server and themes. I keep getting things saying my site is not mobile friendly and will not comply with Google new algorithm for ranking. It has over 200 errors..I am looking at a new site and wondering if yours will be ready or will mine be in compliance in a week or so. I am going to need a new site. Any idea if I can get one through you this week? Let me know. I have noticed my site is being pushed down the list over the last couple weeks and I am not sure what will happen if it is not up to Google Standards. Any idea? When exactly is Google going to start penalizing old sites?

Google's new algorithms are about a week away. It affects you if there's others in your market that comply and you don't. Right now most of the web doesn't comply, it's not affecting anyone now though. Check out the site mentioned above to create a mobile site to add to your HIP site for the time being and you have a new site up and running.

Dominic, I think I am on the old server (if that is the correct terminology).  I do see one mobile site theme.  Are there more themes on some other server?  And if so...and if I changed to one of them, would all of the new changes affect my rankings?

Hi Bruce,

The mobile themes only affect mobile users. Make sure to submit a request to upgrade your site to our help desk so Dan gets you all setup. There's only one theme as the search engines want to see very basic layout for the mobile version of the sites.

Sorry.  Trying to follow what you are telling me exactly.  I am to submit a ticket to upgrade my site to a new server which would give me more themes?

Would getting Dan to set it up ensure that I don't lose my organic search ranking on the search engines?

Also, if I were to select theme "mobile garland", would that be visible on a PC/laptop?  Or would it look funny?

I apologize.  I understand just barely enough to be dangerous. :)

Bruce, maybe this will help... look at Mobile as a "Format" not a "Template". Mobile only uses one format with no template. What you see on one mobile device, will look the same on all mobile devices. All the fancy looking templates are for non-mobile uses, i.e. desktop, laptop.

So, contacting Dan will place you on the list to have him configure your present website to show the Mobile Format when someone accesses it with a mobile device. This process is basically in "first come, first served" status.?

Hope that helped.

(How'd I do Dom?)
