Hi Dom,
I know that HIP already resizes the pix and has the ability to annotate them. Like many other built-ins in all inspection reporting apps, they are pretty basic. The annotator function works fine for most uses.  I like more flexibility. What can I say? I'm a geek! ;D

Since I review software I have a ton of very nice, high end applications at my disposal that I get for free for doing the reviews. Sweet deal for me!  Before I cleaned and reformatted this comp, I had over 350 different apps loaded. Most never got used so I dumped them. ::)

The basic File MinimizerPictures is free, the Pro version is $108.00. :o  Of course, the Pro version has a ton of other features such as being able to "optimize" PDF, PPT, XLS, and media rich Word docs.  I optimized a 208 page draft of a book I had written in Word. The original size was 45MB with images, optimized size was 2.5MB and you really could not tell the difference. That is a substantial space saving. The most important feature is that the optimized files can be opened by anyone. There is no need to have a specialized unzipping application such as 7-Zip to view the files. The amount of compression the program uses is adjustable. You can compress the hell out of a file if you can tolerate a little degradation of the graphics. Using the default compression settings, there is almost no visible difference.

My annotator of choice is SnagIt Pro Editor from TechSmith.  It is primarily a screen capture application that has some amazing capabilities. It includes the Camtasia Screen Cast application for making tutorials and software demos right from your computer screen.
The feature that I use most is the SnagIt Editor.  It is primarily meant for annotating digital content but has a lot more options than a basic annotation software like one would include with inspection software such as HIP.  You can download a free 30 day trial here:
www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/default.asp   Check it out it's pretty cool!

SyncBack:
You can find out about this program here: www.2brightsparks.com/   There are several versions available and they offer free trials. I've used a couple of free versions of synchronizing programs and been left wanting. If the function of an application is important to me, I'm more than willing to pay for it. In this case, it's another one I got for free for doing a review.  The bulk of the software licenses I get for doing reviews are "single user" licenses.  If I really like the program, I'll actually spend real-world money and buy another copy from other computers if needed. I've done this several times.

Check this out and subscribe: www.giveawayoftheday.com   Software developers throw out free  Ltd. licensed copies of their software on this site every day.  Much of it is crap but there are a few gems in here every once in a while.  I often get a chuckle when the software I am currently reviewing for the developer also shows up on this site. Hope you have a big hard drive, you'll need it if you start collecting software like I have. ::)

John, for a few bucks it's worth it to use a great program that automates things. If you want free get dropbox which will at least make things a lot easier.

Dom I don't mind spending a few bucks on software.  But I want to pay a reasonable price and I only want to pay it once and I want the software to do what I need it to do.  lol  I want a lot don't I?
