It says it's still a prototype. Slates are good, but most guys I talk to still like the tablet so they have the option of the keyboard. One of the best devices was the HP TC1100 which allowed the keyboard to detach.

I mis-read the article. I thought the one with the Chrome OS was the prototype. :-[

I'm still waiting to get my hands on Chrome OS. It's out there for beta testing, I just need to get the latest HIP version out before I take on any new projects!

As a user of a Motion LE-1600 slate for three years and several thousand inspections, I found the handwriting recognition on Windows XP-Tablet Edition to be outstanding.  I updated the Wacom drivers and it worked even better.  People used to ask me "How long does it take to train it?"  My answer was IT trains you to write cursive again.LOL  Getting some new to me, used Motion tabs from UPS today.
I plan to try to run HIP on the LS-800 8 inch handheld.  Should be fun.

Update: Got two MotionComputing tablets in and running now. an M1400 and an LS800. I've got HIP running on both and have them both syncing to the HIP directory on the desktop. "Everyone is on the same page" so to speak.  Any changes I make to anything HIP related on any machine get propagated out to the others on sync.
I used the mini LS800 for an inspection the other day and it worked fine.  It's a little tight since it only has an 8 inch screen but workable. A lot easier to carry around.  The M1400 has a combo detachable cover/keyboard and it can be used on the LS800 as well so it works on my desktop when back in the office.  I think I'll try the M1400 next time for the bigger working area.  The menus were a bit truncated and hard to pick from on the 800.  So for a total investment of $400 and a few hours of setup and tweaking, I now have two field use computers to inspect on. No more POS HP Convertible Tablet. I'm really disappointed in that one. Unfortunately, I paid over a grand for it but I had to grab something quickly when my LE-1600 tablet died.
