TOPIC: Add a PDF Doc in middle of report

Re: Add a PDF Doc in middle of report 15 years 5 months ago #3813

Pdf placement in reports would be your biggest achievment for me,right after bookmarks and and borders.

If able to place PDF pages you could toss the entire doc section, which is of course very limited.

The only problem with PDF's within the report is how to handle page numbers and border on them. I'm all ears here on suggestions. I can draw borders around the pages like a normal PDF and add a page number, but there's know way to know whether a PDF will have text where the page numbers are supposed to go.

Wish I was enough of a geek to understand the tech aspect.

I just feel replacing docs with a add PDF section that incorporated placement without effecting bookmarks or borders would be very cool.

Anyone can convert word to PDF so the only issue for the user would be download from personal file

My primitive understanding is the issue for you is to add graphic, which of course is done with pics, so maybe one work around would be the ability to add picture files at a larger size on the page in order to add a pdf page as a graphic capture

Yes that would mean ability to fill one whole page as a graphic image.

Just a thought, so forgive me if it is thinking out loud.

Don't worry about the technical aspect, that's for us to handle. I'm talking about the logical aspect. If the pdf was a word doc, yes that's easy, it would have no page numbers or borders so it would be easy to add. But a lot of guys are now merging radon reports, WDI reports, etc. There's no way to detect text so I'm thinking the only option is to allow the user to choose whether to put a border around it or not. The reports would probably be better off added into an appendix of sorts so they wouldn't look strange without a border.

Dom,

I think that is best, to be able to choose a border or not.  My state has some restrictions on placement of certain information with their WDO report that are near the corners and edges so I would place it at the end of the report anyway. I can customize my other informational docs so they would look good with the border and page number.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Got it, so you're saying some of your PDF's would have it and some wouldn't. Ok, that wouldn't be too hard to add in.
