TOPIC: Moisture reading by windows

Re: Moisture reading by windows 13 years 5 months ago #36261

These are from a Flir BX320. I also have a Flir T-400 that I use mostly on big IR Jobs that require huge reports.

Training received from ITC; Building Science at ITC Boston, Level I at Clarksville, Tn, Level II at Nashville, TN.

Oh yea, I sat in on John McKenna's course in Brentwood, Tn.

Lots of on line stuff from ITC/Flir and Infraspection. Some from Snell.

Impressive list of education you have. I think there are some that buy a fancy camera and then claim they are experts.

I went thru the RESNET training 2 years ago but I was somewhat discouraged as I missed passing by a few points. I did really well on the diagnostices but failed miserably at the building plans. I did not prepare myself on this aspect. I was surprised that there was like zero training on IR. It was mostly building shell and blower door, duct blaster.

The best books I have is Residential Energy and the Energy Auditor Field Guide.

Thanks Dave, loved the IR images you posted.

Please post some of your residential IR to help me, others learn.

As you know I also have many years in HVAC system design/repair (which is all about heat transfer and thermodynamics). It didn't prepare me for the IR Stuff though.  :P

I took BPI last year, I know what you mean.
There was an IR camera around but very little was discussed about it.
I don't think the Instructor was all the qualified in it either.

"I think there are some that buy a fancy camera and then claim they are experts."
This is very sad but all too true.
There are "experts" all over the internet that don't have a clue about what they are looking at.
I scan the internet all the time and find that there are less than a dozen sites that really hold up to the standards.

Many just copy other's scans (and get hell for it)!
The second pic above showed up on the screen in my BPI Certification course.
It's from my web site.
I asked where that scan came from. He said he "took it".
If he did, he's been messing with my wife! That was my bedroom window after new windows were installed!

He "took it" all right, right off the internet!

I have thousands of scans on file. If you want to see something in particular for residential, just ask. It's hard to decide what to post.

Dave A,

Have you ever thought about teaching IR and HVAC to others?

Your level of knowledge of the HVAC profession is excellant!!

How about a post of and IR scan for the HVAC system.

Dave A,

You must tell, what did you say to the guy when he said he took the picture himself?!

Seeing I had yet to complete my on site certification (which he was grading me on) I elected to keep my mouth shut!  :-X  :o
