TOPIC: New phone

New phone 7 years 6 months ago #63272

Since the Galaxy Note 7 is a bust. Looking at the new LG V20, Googles Pixel, Samsung S7 or I phone 7, or something I'm completely missing, because it's time to replace. Feedback from any brand owners?
Looking for input on viewing screen in sunlight at exterior, how well the phone interacts with HIP, how it does after you've dropped it, you know, all the things you love (or hate) about your present phone that you perform inspections on.

Thanks.

I've had my eye out for the Caterpillar S60 with thermal imaging camera. I don't feel like spending $600 at the moment, and am waiting for Verizon to stock it. My local Verizon store said 'we may be getting those'. I think that will be my next phone. Currently using a Samsung Galaxy S5.

The question is, why is it time to replace?  I use the S5 and actually bought a 2nd new one to save for later. Until Samsung brings back a replaceable battery, I would never upgrade to any fixed battery unit.  There have been times with some larger inspections with heavy picture use the battery gets drained after a number of hours.  I carry a spare battery / charger.  If a fixed battery drains too fast for whatever reason, I don't want to be sitting around waiting for it to charge to a usable level.  I turn off all APPS except HIP when starting an inspection.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

As a new HIP user, I haven't fully utilized the mobile app for the inspection. Still using a digital camera. I'll probably just use the phone to collect data and write/voice record comments, instead of using the camera and installing pics on site. Who knows, I may one day. I did read somewhere that when inspecting, collecting data and pics on the mobile app, it tends to drain the battery, as you mentioned. Having a replaceable battery if you're doing most of the inspection with the phone is a good idea. I haven't thought about the battery. Thanks for the heads up.

So, I ended up getting the Note 7 2 weeks ago after my Note 4 went bust. I was very upset about losing the replaceable battery but the battery life has actually been at least double what my Note 4 was and for the first time can actually make it through a day without charging during the day. Now that I'm carrying a mobile bomb around though I obviously have to update again. I've ordered the Google Pixel XL which I'll get on the 20th (unfortunately still no replacement battery). My second choice is the LG V20 but it's not out for a bit. I do have a USB charging pack I keep with me that I can use to charge things up, a charger in my car, next to my desk, etc.

Dominic,
Do you have any info/opinion about Google's Project Fi?
