TOPIC: 2 questions

2 questions 13 years 1 month ago #38340

1. Do you call out an outlet in the laundry room that is not on a GFCI?  I typcially do because of the 6 foot water rule however; I never have seen an outlet in a laundry room on a GFCI

2.  Older or relatively newer homes without AFCI, do you recommend that they be added?

Doug

GFCI in laundries was not required until 2005. So in my reports I include a HTML link and in my selection/comments I have the years of the required locations.

In my AFCI section I include an HTML link for informaing my clients on how AFCI operate and protection. Required in bedrooms since 2002, in 2008 were additional requirments.

It really depends on the age of the home if I call out as a safety concern or an improvement.

There are some excellant web links and comments available to use in your reports.

Create pages on your own site then link there. Better for SEO. Just make sure the report itself always stands on its own for legal reasons.

Not sure about the rule or code, as I generalist I use my common sense on report recommendations for GFCI protection.

I am sure Joe Tedesco is lurking and he can give you all the versions of the codes.

Please see if this link to the entire 2005 NECH will work for you. Then see Section 210.8 for the changes.

It is a large file so wait for it to download.
