***For Your Review***
Here's my new Sample Report on a residential pre-purchase home inspection I just performed using HIP 2.6.6.4b and a Template I've been working on for several months.  To give credit where it's due--I started with David Macy's Residential template, and worked from that--thanks David!

PLEASE give me all your "take-no-prisoners" critiques and recommendations--this is a work in progress from a "Newbie" who's been with you for 8 months.

Hi Serge,

Thanks for posting the report, I think it looks great! You've done a really good job working on template. The only thing I can suggest is there's a few places where you use Bullet and a few New Line + Bullet for observations. This might be on purpose though.

Serge,
Nice work! I am still searching for a template that will work for me and I think the one you have created just might be it. Is there a chance you would be able to share?

Thanks for the kind words.  It's important to give the client a product that's comprehensive--and it looks good.  Agents appreciate it also.  You never know who's going to be looking at your Report.  It is your valuable, lasting, selling point.  Poor product can hurt referrals--no matter what your inspection skills are.  In my opinion, anyway.

Serge,

Great report!!  Very attractive for a prospective client.  Dave Macy has been a tremendous help to me as well.  I like the design and flow of your report.  I'm an ASHI inspector and your template design fits what I'm trying to accomplish.  As you were asked by another poster would you be willing to share your template or give any valuable advice on your template design?  I'm located in Virginia (Rappahannock County).  Do you belong to the NOVA ASHI chapter?  Take care...

Hey I wanted to see if you had considered adding the time it takes you to do the report?  I saw that you keep track of inspection time.  You may want to add a little spot for the report time as well.

Just a thought.

John, I hadn't thought of that. Do you do that in your reports? What's your rationale? I'm interested.

FYI I just completed a Pre-Listing Report -- and will be posting it for your review.

No I don't keep track of time.  I do in my head but not for customers to see.  I do however keep call logs and have set up a database on my website to keep track of certain stats.

That may be of interest to you too.

Serge

That is one of the nicest reports I have seen. Do not give me any credit as you did a lot of work.

Way to go. I will need to look at this better one day. The color scheme and layout is very detailed.

Dom you need to add this one to your site if you have not done already. Congrats on a great report.

You will receive lots of compliments and referrals with this report.

Very good work!! Wow!! Karma for you.

Serge,
As mark and I asked earlier, Any chance in you posting the template? I think that both our markets are not in direct competition with yours. I'm very impressed with your template as I'm sure Mark is as well. I am having a difficult time designing a template that works for me. (prior InspectVue user) and yours may be just what I'm looking for. If you choose not to post your template, I understand, but just wanted to inquire.

I want to thank you all for the positive comments.  Here is the sample NOVAhi Pre-Purchase Report again, with a bit of subtle changes recommended by Dominic.  And also, here is a sample of a NOVAhi Pre-Listing Report which I just completed.

The major difference in a pre-listing report is:
 1. The Executive Summary page, the NOTE wording is different—reflecting that this page can be used as a “punch-list” by the owner/client.
 2. Therefore, more items/deficiencies are inserted in the “RED” section because the owner hired me to list all of the issues that need attention to help make the house more appealing for prospective buyers.
3. As such, the inspector will list more cosmetic items for example, that normally are not inserted/listed in a pre-purchase home inspection report.

As far as posting my Template--I am posting it next -- within 24 hours  Tongue

Know this:  IT's NEVER ABOUT DIRECT COMPETITION!  We need to help each other--that's why we are part of the HIP family. There is plenty of work to go around.  Our best advertizing is the Report we produce.  That's when the Client realizes it was money well spent.  In my opinion, it's all about CONTENT and READABILTY -- not just filling squares on a report form. Enough about my soap box.  Grin

It's taking me some time. I also want to give you the color scheme (color numbers), and explain how I use some of my comments.  I've been writing a couple of reports lately and my Template is a "moving target" -- I'm always adding to it and fiddling with it.

Also if you need my "Documents", I can post those also.  BTW  Email or call me ANYTIME with any questions.

"Stand by for news."

Serge, it was a pleasure to chat with you this afternoon.
Believe it or not, I was under my truck, changing the shocks,
when you called.  Shocked
And I enjoyed the break, and look forward to seeing the template.

Thank you for all your help to us new HIP users...  Grin

Serge, thanks again for sharing your great looking report. You're 100% correct about the attitude we're trying to create here. This is one large team, inspectors helping other inspectors, not competing against each other. There's a reason we haven't followed in the footsteps of the other vendors and charged extra money for additional templates within the software. We want guys to feel free to share what they've made and help each other out.

This philosophy is getting to the point that several inspectors in Chicago are looking at creating an umbrella company name for marketing themselves as a larger company and sharing expenses but still operating individually. They're using their Home Inspector Pro reports to give themselves a consistent look.

Hmmm that's not a bad idea if you set up the ground rules right!  I wonder how they are working out the details???

Talk to Bob Elliot. It's him Rick Maday, Joe Tribuzio and a few others. They are just in the starting stages so I don't think they have much planned out. But basically there are VERY few multi inspector companies left compared to 5 years ago so it can help give them a leg up.

Yeah I don't see many of them around here.  I think there is only one maybe two that have more than one inspector working for the company.  Course there aren't that many inspectors around here anyways.  I mean if you stop and think about it, my lic # is 776.  And I don't see 776 inspectors in the phone book.  If memory serves me, I think there are only about 30 or so full time inspectors in this area.  Only a couple of those companies get most of the Realtor work around here.  I'd be dead in the water if it wasn't for my website!  (thanks Dom)
