I put a substantial amount of information in these captions (rather than in the report body) and it is difficult to navigate in this small box as it does not expand.  If I accidentally hit the arrow or get close to it, it wipes out everything I dictated.

For the most part, I dictate in another program and drag and drop it into the captions  slot.  However, sometimes reviewing or editing I hit the arrow and everything is gone.

Is there any way to get this box to open up and expand like in the program body?  Or  at least keep that arrow from deleting everything?

Hey David,

Hmm, I'll check into it. The default behavior of a drop down box is to clear it as you're about to change the selection. I could capture the text before the arrow is clicked and then when its unclicked make sure nothing has changed. I've just added it to my list, let me see what I can do.

The captions were intended to be shorter but I realize that more and more guys just add lots of photos with captions underneath.

I'll let you know what I come up with.

Thanks!

I set up my template to cover all the required reporting stuff from the State Law.

I dictate the "specifics of the defect" off of my photos and put this in the caption.

The "hunt and pick" stuff is a generalized description of the defect ie. "Water leak observed at the kitchen sink". This is also the summarized version I want in the summary.

As we discussed before, I don't use the drop down option in the photos section. I don't want all that redundancy in the report body and under the picture. I tend to get wordy and no one wants to read all that stuff twice! A radio button on the photos page that puts the caption in the summery would save having it enter things in two locations. You either do the "hunt-and-pick" or edit the photo.

I am trying to dictate into the "red" area instead of on the photo. But, you have to swap back and forth, or open two windows side-by-side.
After you get the photo view at the bottom of the page upgrade done, I may change. But I have set up my old report template this way and have been using this sequence for 11 years. Hard to change w/o conflict!

Oh well the next version of Home Inspector Pro will make you happy then. The major new feature I'm hoping to have done for the next version is to make it so that you can view each photo within the exact tab it belongs in.

Dave, glad you made the plunge ti HIP, I  figured you would like it.  I am not following you on the report, do you have a finished sample I can view, or send to me?  I am still stremlining mine as well, but it keeps getting better, and better.
