I just installed HIP on my pc laptop and want to sync the software with my MAC. Is this possible? Or do I have to set everything up again and then load the templates I want individually? I only want to use the laptop when I'm out of the office and have time to work on a report, otherwise I will use my desktop like I have been doing.

Hi Tobin

You can move all the settings and templates to your pc laptop at one go. Please follow these steps:
1. In your MAC, go to the Mac Drive->Applications->Home Inspector Pro
2. Copy the Data folder.
3. Go to your Thumb Drive and Paste it
4. Insert your Thumb Drive into your pc laptop
5. Copy the data folder from the Thumb Drive
6. In your pc laptop, go to C drive->Program Files->Home Inspector Pro
7. Paste the Data folder. If prompted for file or folder replacement confirmation, click on "Yes to All"

This way all your settings can be moved to your pc laptop from your MAC.

After the initial setup, when you are working on inspection reports, you can just save the inspection to your thumb drive and open it from the other machine. For example, if you are working on an inspection in your laptop, you can follow these steps:
1. Click on Save Inspection and save your inspection to your thumb drive
2. Click on Save Inspection to save your inspection in your laptop (to keep a backup in your laptop)
3. In your MAC, you can click on Open Inspection and open the inspection directly from the thumb drive.
4. Click on Save Inspection to save your inspection in your MAC (again as a backup).

Whenever you make any changes to an inspection in either of your machines, just follow the above steps to move it between the two machines.

Alternatively, you can email the inspection file to copy it between machines. For example, if you are working on an inspection in your laptop, you can follow these steps:
1. Click on Save Inspection to save your inspection in your laptop
2. Email the file as an attachment
3. In your MAC, you can download the inspection file from your email and save it to the following location - Applications->Home Inspector Pro->Client Data
4. Click on Open Inspection to open the inspection that you copied.

This way inspections you prepare can be moved between your two machines very easily.

Hope it helps.

Thanks John. That worked great! Next question- I typically edit and save my template each time I write a report, how do I get the changes to sync between the computers periodically, and easily.

Tobin,

You can move the inspection files you are working on between machines following the steps above. When you open and save the inspection file in your target machine, you can also click on "Save Template" to save the template corresponding to the report.

Sweet. Last question- Each time I write a report, I have to re-enter my company info. (phone #'s, email address, website etc.) how do I get this info to stay permanently.

Tobin,

Company info should stay irrespective of the report you are writing. Are you facing this problem in your MAC?

If the problem occurs in your MAC, try this:
1. Enter the Company Info
2. Exit the application using File->Exit or clicking the red "X". Don't use the MAC "Quit" function.

Then start the application and try writing new reports. You need not re-enter company info everytime.

Please let me know if this doesn't work.

Yes, on my mac. I tried your suggestion and it worked. In the past, I always closed the app using the mac quit function. Thanks, I was really starting to get aggravated with that.
