Aside from foundation, support for joists, support for plumbing, lack o' strapping, and overall joinery, there isn't much to say. What did you tell your folks? Looks like the new wine in the old bottle didn't do well... I've heard that before somewhere... You should try not to be too picky...  |

The black tubing that you see in the pic is a product called high density polyethylene (HDPE). It is ok for use as a service type feed but not as a branch feed line. Also have to love those clamps;) This house was a disaster!

I had HDPE as my service line coming into a previous house. It popped under the house. Big deal - we were up a cul-de-sac pipe stem driveway and a long way from the street. Had to run a new line. Big bummer...

Speaking of pipe uses. Does anyone have a updated list of piping types and what they are suppose to be used for? I have one but its limited. Its doesn't really have any plastic pipe types other than PVC.
I like to keep stuff like this for notes. Lets face it, I'm a guy, I have goldfish memory! lol

John,
The best thing you can do is find out what your local code enforcement uses. IRC etc... If you don't have a copy already, get a copy of at least the IRC 2003 or 2006. Great reference.
There are also 2 tables. The first table, P2904.4, lists water "service" pipes
The second table, P2904.5, lists water "distribution" pipes.

Jay,
Have you ever had an inspection and when you got home to do the report, you just sit there looking at your monitor, not sure of where to start? That was me last night. This home was 1300sq ft, owned by a contractor, and the biggest piece of s**t I have inspected in a looooong time. I am going to post more pics. I was hoping it would be an informative post(s) for some of the newer inspectors.

I almost always do the inspection on site with the client. Even if they need to leave, I do it there, save it on a thumb, and email it later, but I do the report on site.
