How much free space do you have on your computer. Click on My Computer and right click on your C drive and look at properties. To properly defrag you need more than 15% free. Some programs can do it with less space but it's much slower.
Hey Dom, I was hoping this summer that I can upgrade to a better computer. Memory on this one dosen't seem to be a problem, but it is 10 years old and still running 2000 Professional. It is just difficult to accept info from guys that are using Vista, and lot of times I can't open things. I have had to download such things as Power point display, resizers etc.. I checked my free space as you said and it says that I have 27.9 GB free space and Cap. of 37.2. I have no idea if that is good or not.
Would you recommend Vista and what particular capacities should I have?
Thanks in advance.
Marcel

Hey Marcel,
Like you said. The program runs fine on your Windows 2000 machine. You have a ton of free space! The program has very minimal requirements. Windows 7 is coming out which will replace Vista in a few months so you might want to wait as prices are going to drop.
You can pick out any Dell for $500 and get a great machine. Are you looking at a laptop to be mobile or a desktop?

Good to hear Dominic, and I prefer to stay with a regular PC, laptops don't turn me on right now, just dosen't fit with my schedule of building. Maybe later. And would also stay with Del, this one has served me well. I am just afraid one of these days, it will die. I have never shut it down in ten years. I have been downloading as much info on discs that I can just in case something happens. I will wait for the new model as you mentioned. Thanks.

You've never shut it down ?!!?!? WOAH! Definitely make sure you backup. The average hard drive life (where your files are stored) is about 5 years so you're doing well.

Lucky I guess.
Is there a way to burn email folders that have been saved in the email section? Two years as chairman of the Awards Committee, I have accummulated hundreds of emails from one person in particular that I would like to save for the future. I just don't know quite how to go about it. Thanks in advance.

Click, Help->About and let me know what version. I'll have to look it up as I haven't used outlook, especially on a Win 2000 machine in AWHILE!

Dom I followed your advice above to shut down programs. when I shut it down something weird happened a blue screen popped for one second and on it it had a file folder. above it there was a square smiley face crying and and just below it a message that said either dang or darn something has gone wrong.Never seen this before.
Any Idea???

Did it say 'Snap, something has gone wrong!'
Sounds like you're running Google Chrome, that's what it says when it crashes.

I thought I had some killer virus or spybot on my computer that my anti-virus programs weren't catching. Thanks Dom.

Dom said: Use AVG. I use the free AVG virus scan and spyware scanner. Thanks to you my computers run nice now, I deleted the McAfee anti-everything and bought the AVG 8.5, wow...what a difference, the computers run fast, even when AVG is doing a complete system scan I cannot even notice any difference in operating speed or tasks...really great software. It's also incredible the amount of spyware it isolates-deletes, just browsing normal sites it's incredible the amount of spyware that is out there in computer-land. Thanks for the advice Dom...sure helped me considerably getting rid of McAfee...!

No problem, glad to help. Were you able to use one purchased copy of AVG on multiple machines, or did you end up having to buy a few copies?

No I had to buy multiple's (versions) for my various machines (five computers), it says on the CD they send in the mail as backup that the version is for ONE MACHINE ONLY...like McAfee and others I believe...but to have a good anti virus, spyware-adware isolator-deleter, and it's tax deductible of course, well it's fine with me...but what a difference...incredible...

Yeah most of the programs are one computer only. I wasn't sure about AVG though as I have the free version on my other computers.

For the 50 or 60 bucks each, I went with the Paid Versions, I don't know the difference, but it seems to me when you pay for something a few people put a LOT of work into, you generally get a program which is better than free---but I could be wrong---but I don't like taking chances, unless I'm at the Casino of course-;)
