Wow! How old is that house? You just don't see brick work like that (nor basements) here in California. What's up with the walled in door? Do they keep the bodies on the other side?

The walled up door, was the old walk out exit, that they sealed for some reason. The whole basement felt like a murder scene anyway.

The foundation was original stone, and some areas were brick. The whole place permeated moisture.

OH YEAH, that building was originally erected in the late 1800's early 1900's or so.

Hey, if you want to learn about old mob hideouts (especially Capone and his Chicago connections), look to Walker, Minnesota and the Leech Lake area.  The "boys" used this area as their getaway/hideout way before it was a popular tourist area.  I have good knowledge from a former client who's grandmother and mother worked the family "resort" and met Capone several times!  Pretty interesting to hear the stories!

That door is the old service entrance.  There was likely a coal boiler/furnace and then an oil one.

You can see different eras just in those pics!

Over near California eh.
Joe that looks like the old coal room

Personally I have no problem with the condition as it is expected with that type and age structure, plus will most likely be around long after all these brick siding joints are gone.
