In this tutorial we'll cover how to add sample reports to your reports page. You could also use this method to add other documents to your site. - Go to your sample reports page.
- Click on the Edit button at the top.
- Type in the text that you want to become the link like "Sample Report 1"
- Highlight that text (use your mouse).
- Click on the link icon (look like a chain link or infinity symbol).
- Click Browse Server
- Change the folder in the drop down to reports
- Click Browse on the bottom, then upload file. The file is now uploaded.
- You'll see the file listed up above. Click Add to the right of its name.
- Change the protocol drop down box to say 'Other' (this is something I'm trying to make easier here).
- Click Ok
- You're done! Test it out
This will eventually become an animated tutorial. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about this tutorial, post them here!

Hi Bill,
I just logged into your site and it looked ok. When I clicked on browse server I get another popup and in the middle is a drop down box that allows you to change the folder. Do you get the popup box when you click on browse server?

Dominic, I may have figured it out. I found it on the bottom task bar. But when I try to upload I get "file size exceeds upload limit"

Try it now. Your file size was set to 100kb which I had the first few sites too as I was thinking of pictures only. I've upped it so each file can now be 5 megs for a total of 1 gigs. Let me know if it works better. If anyone else has issues, let me know. The first sites I setup have some small variations to how I have the sites set up now.

Awesome, glad to hear that Hopefully we'll finish up the animated tutorials soon to make things smoother. Right now I'm trying to fix some cosmetic issues with some of the themes but will get back to the animations later tonight.

Hi Patrick,
You missed this step: Change the protocol drop down box to say 'Other' (this is something I'm trying to make easier here).
I updated your site and it works great now.
Just so everyone knows, this is now an animated tutorial as well. You can get to it by clicking on Website Tutorials from the main home page of our site. Dominic

Hey Bill, I'm glad to hear that Make sure to tell all your inspector friends. We hope to go public in the next few days. I'm working on fixing up a few last things and securing another server as I expect a lot of signups within the first few weeks. I'll update the file size right now, check it in about 2 minutes. Ok, all done. How do you like the new header for the theme you're using? I updated it today after some suggestions from a few other inspectors.
Also, the FAQ | HIP is part of the Primary Menu. You can click on Menus in your Admin section and delete the HIP link. I think I had it there for testing at one point. You can then add whatever you want horizontally in the menu across the top of your site and even eliminate one of the side menus if you want.

Thanks Dominic! I think the header looks great. I noticed that this evening. I added the FAQ link at the top... I've been leaving the HIP link up there until I'm done. I like it as a quick reference link to this board when I get stuck. I'm still working on new pages in Word and then I'll dump them onto the site when ready. Then I'll re-adjust all the links and positions as well as decide what to put at the top. You better believe I'll spread the word!

Awesome, sounds good Make sure to put the link to your site in your signature here and on any forum you use. It really helps out your search engine rankings as forums get trolled by spiders often.

Try to do a shift-refresh on your page. The first time you look at the browser it creates the folders, if it does it too slowly you wont see them. Also, make you click browse and dont see anything popup, make sure it isn't already open at the bottom of your screen from when you opened it before.

I think that's where I found it - much later - in a small window that was covered by others. Found it when I was in the process of shutting down.

Ok, I figured as much. If you're not paying attention and click on the other window then the browser will fall behind it. Just make sure to check the bottom of your taskbar.

This is great stuff Dom. I really appreciate the personal attention you give us. Here's my problem; My sample report consists of A cover picture, The report, and The pictures. I've uploaded them all, but when I "add" one, that's the only one that shows up on the Sample Reports page. Is it possible to get all 3 links on that page?

What program are you using that has your report split into 3 parts? I'm assuming that means your pictures are not within the report either itself and are at the end?
You have a few solutions. You can merge them into a single PDF using a pdf merge program (search downloads.com). Or you can repeat the steps in this thread several times and add additional text that you'd be highlighting and setting for each portion.

Thanks Dom. Merging them into a single PDF worked. But I've really gooned something up. When I'm signed in, Sample Report doesn't show up in the Navigation area. When I'm logged out, it's there, but "Sample Report" is not a link to the report itself. http://forums.floridasportsman.com/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/IMOsmiley/bang.gif

Click Content in your admin menu and click the Sample Report page and edit. Make sure the page has published checkedat the very bottom and the people allowed to view the page has none of the boxes checked (which allows all)

The sample report page that I see you created has no menu title which is why it's not appearing. There is also no link, just normal text on the page. Make sure to highlight the text before clicking the link button.

Hi Dale,
How large is the report? If you see it on the list then it's uploaded, you just click Add next to the file name and follow the rest of the steps.

That's a HUGE file. The files are limited to 5 megs each. What inspection program are you using that creates that massive of a report? It would take someone on dial up about 30 minutes to download your sample report and about 5+ minutes on DSL. In comparison, Home Inspector Pro's average report size is 1.5megs. Try to find a smaller report or a way to reduce the size.

Pretty old thread, I know...BUT...if I've got a couple sample reports I'd like to post (older home, newer home, etc.) do I need to create new pages for each, or can I get them all on one page?

Ok, figured the adding several reports on one page. When I go to the drop down menu to select "Other", there is no "Other" option. Only URL, Link to anchor, or Email. Which do I select?

Pretty sweet, if you ask me. Trips to the BWCA were always fun because at night you can sit out and count the satellites going overhead. They're all over the place, and most of the time, we'd have no clue.

Dom, I am assuming that the program is supposed to be able to pull from your server where our uploaded reports are? Or is it supposed to pull from our local HIP client reports? I select "other", and I get a explorer type drop down with /user files/slideshows and nothing is listed. If I leave it to "http:", I get an explorer type box showing /users/sample reports but still no files. Where is this "user files"? I think that it is on your server?

This is for sample reports, you have to upload reports that ou want it to show. The HIP upload service is separate and links to your site in a different way.

yes, but how do you upload them? Where do they come from. I see no place to get to my local folder where my reports are stored in order to upload. The interface does not show my hard drive at all. I am missing something here.

Type in some text or insert and image. Highlight text or click image. Click the link button (looks like a chain link) and then click the browse button, then you should see an upload button to browse your hard drive.

A couple of questions. WhenI tried to install a sample report on my site I made it up to the part where it said to click on the link button(chain/infifnty) but on my site I did not see it. I talked to Dan and he said he was able to see it.
Also I am having trouble setting up my links page and linking to other companies, on the tutorials it says to click on the weblink line under create content, I see webforms or links, and tried different things with both of those but with no luck. I'm sure i'm making it more diificult than it actually is.
Thanks in advance for your time and help,
Dave

Hi David,
It looks like a globe with a chain on it on some sites. Put your cursor over each icon and you'll see the one that says link.
Create Content->Link (aka weblink) is what you want. I need to delete my sample report and add a different one.
I know how to follow the tutorial to add the new one, but how do you delete the existing one.
Thanks It has been to long since I worked on it.

Hey Marcel,
Just delete the text that links to the old. Then type new text and link it to your new uploaded report.

Looks like you deleted the whole page Marcel! I see you tried creating a new one too. I added it to the menu for you (that's the Menu Name setting when editing a page).

I can't believe you are at work today. Unreal.
Anyways, yes like my Avatar, I kicked it and it did not help.
Thanks, I had made an attempt to add it after I lost it, but had no clue where it went and gave up.
Thanks again. Now hopefully I will be able to add a more recent one without friggin it up.

Of and on. Just got back from a bike ride. I needed to get out! Luckily most people have been emailing, using the help desk or posting on the forums today, very few phone calls (which is great). I can get through emails and help desk questions much quicker, and watch the rose parade at the same time!

Good for you Dom, hope you had a relaxing bike ride. Wish I could say the same, but at 13 degrees right now, riding the bike is out of the question. After 10 days of loafing, I got to go back to ship building tomorrow.

It was about 45 here but when you're riding at 20 mph it feels quite a bit colder. I need to go pick up some gloves that cover my finger tips, mine are cut offs.
How's everything going at the shipyard? Do they treat you guys good there?
