Is there a setting in the program for this or due we have to set it in our printer each time?

Also is there a way an index can be printed out in the report?

Also is there a way to copy certain comments from one section to another?

Hey James,

1) Not sure what you mean for printing in a binder. What settings do you need changed?

2) The index is integrated into the PDF in the bookmarks on the left and the summary has page numbers and item numbers for every deficiency. We could create a regular index that listed all the sections if enough people were interested in it. I don't think there's been any requests for it as the summary usually covers it.

3) Yes. Highlight as many comments as you want, click on the copy button (or ctrl-c), go to the destination section, click a comment (so the program knows where to put the comments) and click the paste button (or ctrl-v).

Let me know if this helps or if you have any more questions.

To install in a binder, I need to punch three holes for the binder rings.  The left margin will need to be set wider for when I punch the holes, I do not punch through any printed text.

If anybody thinks an index would make our reports look more professional and easier for the person looking at the report to find the information faster, please post your opinion here for Dom can see the response or we can set up a poll if Dom thinks it would be bettwer.
I believe an index, in the front right after the cover, is essential especially when dealing with commercial clients because this is what they are use to seeing when reading most any kind of report.

I think its a good idea.  You could design it so we could turn it on or off.

I've considered it, it just seems like filler. Maybe I could work it onto the cover page somehow.

Thanks for you consideration Dom.   Putting it on the cover page will probably not work because it is too common to have it on a seperate page just like a book.  Just like John says, if somebody wants to turn it off and not include an index than that is their decision.  Thsi addition will be something that will attract more inspectors who writes reports to the professional crowd.   Thanks again for you consideration.

Hey James,

It's definitely something that could be added in. I've seen about 80%+ of guys using Home Inspector Pro no longer print reports, so the bookmarks replaced it. But I can see it's use if you're still printing. The question is , how detailed do you want the index? Do you want it just to have the major page (i.e Kitchen, Laundry, Mather Bathroom, etc) or also have the items below it as well? I'd think the latter would be too long so I'm guessing the first. If we just have the page numbers and item it could be a bit bland. Any idea what else could go on the page to make it more interesting?

Color code the number of the first page of each section on the index to correspond with broder color of each section.
I will email you a copy of a mold protocol I have written in Word also for you can understand the layout  (it is not color coded though).

Hey James,

Thanks for the example report. I've written it down on the to-do list and have a few ideas on what to do with it. Thanks!

For a binder, I would recommend NOT punching holes in the report itself.  Get some sheet protectors and put the pages in there.  Too easy to lose a page or 12 w/ 3 hole punches.  JMO

True. I just read James comment, I missed it earlier. I guess I'll need to go out and but a 3 hole puncher the guys who do insert directly and add a margin feature!

James,

How close is the holes to the line, or is onto the text? How far in from the page is probably a better question Smiley

You will need to add an extra 1/2 "onto the margin to leave room for the binder holes.

Ok. I've had some people ask to move up the bottom in the past too so they could use special paper so I'll just make it adjustable all around.

If you did the edit in a report and saved the report but not the template you can open the report and still save the template, otherwise its gone!
