On the SEO message board, (message 12-22-08) it sounds like you are doing IR scans.
What kind of camera, how much and where did you purchace it? Through a supplier via Nachi? I saw something about a "Fluke" brand on Nachi's message board for 4k. Thats a lot of $$$

4K for a IR camera is cheap. Jay stated he paid 10K for his years ago.

Any tips or recommedations on training, equipment, reporting would really be a great help to me and others.

Yeh, I just read the comment on Nachi's board a day or so ago. This guy had just ordered one, (Fluke TI)  and paid like $4049 +- , and Nick posted he could still get the discount for him. Go to Nachi's message board, you'll find it under "recent post" or something like that.

I have been looking around and the cheapest one I can find at regular price and for our industry is $5k (Flir IRC57).  Don't for get you will need a door blower also.  They run about $1-3k.  Then if you get decent training it will cost you another $1-2k.

I have been actively setting my company up to do IR's in the last couple of weeks.  I am subcontracting all of my scans out.  The company I am using uses a Fluke Ti25.  I am a Fluke guy myself.  I worked in a calibration lab for 9 years and dealt with Fluke on a daily basis.  I would say about 95% Fluke stuff is very good.  Something you should keep in mind when purchasing equipment, is the accuracy of the unit and if it can be calibrated/adjusted.  Yo would be surprised how much stuff out there cant be calibrated!!!

Door blower pressurizes the home before you start scanning the exterior etc?

I didn't either.  I thought you jus had to get the camera and schooling.

The blower helps exaggerate any leaks the house has.  That way it makes it easier to find.

I can do conference calling from my phone, but I dont have capability of doing live chat on my computer, is that what you meant? and what do you have to do to a computer to do that?

Look at Craigslist for used cameras too.  You will most likely have to check other states and cities.  There was a guy at NACHI board that found three of them that way.

Oh and I also forgot to tell you earlier the guy I am using got his level 1 cert from The Snell Group.

You may also want to look into the subcontractor side like I did.

I am interested in doing IR scans, but I am a little concerned about using the IR during a home inspection due to liability issues.  I have heard stories about the IR opening up the home inspector to lawsuits about not seeing something that they should have.

So I guess my question has to do with how others are using the IR (regular inspections or just energy audits) and how you are covering yourself in the liability area.

NACHI members have access to a thermal imaging scan addendum contract.  This releases you from most of those liabilities.
