ROFL.....didn't mean to start a flame war about Apple vs PC vs Android. They all work fine and each has it's place in the market. As mentioned above, I think the iPads are more about consumption of content as opposed to creating it and doing work. PC and Android (to a lesser extent) are more about doing work. I like the hackability of the Android OS and the ability to actually flash a different ROM or OS if you want or need to.

In all seriousness, I think both android and apple kick butt pretty much. I can't imagine a home inspector doing business without some type of smartphone on one of those platforms. I would also agree that apple is designed to be more for consuming content than producing it. Just got my wife an iPad for her birthday and I haven't seen her since! That's all you have to do? Gott get her one Cheers

PdaNet and you can tether your phone to your tablet. My cousin is over last week; He developed "voice recognition", language developer, developed Windows base systems in the space station, lost track of his patents, recently developed broadband internet for remote areas using microwaves with solar & wind generators; working with Microsoft EE's and their using "Apple". Yes..Im on a Windows machine..for now

Ok, I knew I should have waited for the Mobile to come out before I bought my tablet. My wife got playing with it and has claimed it. LOL. So I just bought a new Motorola xooom. My question though, can I fill out the client information and all I need first on my computer and then transfer it to my tablet via cloud. Or do I have to fill out the client information once it is on the tablet? Thanks Dom, Bob Elliot and others for all of your help on the new android HIP program.

Dana, does the Bionic camera work for pics in the field or are you still using a digital camera separate from the phone?
Or if anyone else is using phone/tablet camera, feel free to chime in...

Hi Casey, In a pinch, I have used the phone. I have it setup to automatically upload to a special folder on my PhotoBucket account. When I get to the office, I can grab the pics from there.
Normally, I use a regular point and shoot digital. Actually a waterproof one since they seem to last longer and don't get borked by the dust etc. Due to he constraints of size, the cameras in the phones are not good enough yet to compete. The lenses are not good enough, the flash is weak and there is rarely a usable (as in optical) zoom feature.

Dan, PDA Net is workable but a geeky solution that most users could not figure out. I'm a geek and had problems getting it to work. Thankfully, the "tether" ability is now baked in to the OS of most android phones. It is on my Bionic. Of course the carriers want to charge you an extra $20-$30 a month to use it but that can easily be gotten around. Simply "root" or "jailbreak" in the case of Apple and you can do what ever the hell you want, including killing all the useless bloatware they pile on. There are many apps available on the "Play Store" to use tethering via WiFi, Bluetooth or USB cable.

Hi Casey, It is really stupid simple these days. It really depends on the phone. Most are pretty hard to brick these days. If you have an Android, there are tons of forums etc available with instructions and the needed application to do it "one-click". I rooted my Bionic with no problems. Check droidforums.net, droidlessons.com, androidcentral.com for more info.
Caution; rooting voids your warranty. Fortunately, these days, you can un-root just as easily as you rooted so no problem.
One nice thing about rooting is that you can FULLY backup your system. Stock will not allow you do do this since the carrier wants to pay extra for the service. I use TitaniumBackup. This app also allows you to "freeze" the bloatware that the carrier stuffs the phone with like Amazon, NFL, and other crap ware that is designed to make them money and just takes up space on the phone. They all have sweetheart deals to pile this junk on the phone. Best not to remove it entirely or the phone won't update with the OTA updates. The system I use allows me to temporarily "unfreeze" the bloatware and unroot the phone to get the OTA (over the air) updates. Then just root again and freeze the crap. PM or call me if you need more info.
