They just called about commercial property. It's some kind of insurance survey/inspection. It's not a four point inspection, just photos and a general overview of the property. The pay is $60 which I'm not sure is worth any liability involved.  I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with them or a similar company.

Not From them...But Maid Brigade, the cleaning service, approached me to do inspections for foreclosure properties...paying even less. Apparently they had some sort of contract. Was not worth it for me.

This is suppose to be a 20 minute thing, but I haven't gotten the details on it. It's mostly pictures of the rooms and filling in some specific questions about GFCIs, smoke detectors, fire extiguishers and railings. I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet.

Farmers used to do something similar on new inspections. $60 for 20 minutes and guys would knock out 10+ a day. Unfortunately those days have been gone for awhile!

Let me put it this way Cameron. Good luck with that $60 thing. You will get it, for a short while. I did a few for them before pushing for more $$$. I think I was blackballed, and was instrumental with getting a lady fired. Casey also did some for them after I "failed" to kiss their ass. Oh, btw, the real "basic" fee is $30. You have to fight for the rest.

If anyone is curious... the people that operate SiteCheck is a handfull of ex-employees of LeaseInspection. I worked with them also a few years ago for a short while.

Well, I followed up with the lady who called, she was pushing really hard for me to schedule something. I asked to see the contract we would be signing which laid out the expectations of the inspections, the fees and the extent of liability, etc...       I'm not certain but I think she might have giggled.

I didn't feel comfortable about it anyway and now reading your post Jeff I see I made the right choice. Thanks for the offer, I won't be able to work with you.

This may answer your questions. Keep in mind this is their 'basic' info that they supply. For some reason, the 'surveys' usually are more extensive, and take anywhere from 30-45 minutes including the Q&A Interview...

I've done quite a few for them, mostly at the end of the year when my business is slow and they need someone to do a quick inspection of bar/restaurant operations for insurance renewal.  It is pretty easy since all you really have to do is look around the place, fill out a short check list and take a few photos.  For what they are asking you to do, the liability is pretty low.  As for payment, the only place I have done "cheap" is the Mexican Restaurant about a mile from my house.  For others, I just tell them how much I will do it for (depending on distance) and they can take it or leave it.  Better yet, for those I have done before, a lot of the basic data (how far to nearest fire hydrant, etc.) I can just copy from last year's.

Sorry for my delays guys...had illness running rampant through my house the last week...

SiteCheck...I did almost 20 "inspections" for them in the course of 3-4 days.  They were desperate for someone to cover these as they were very remote sites.  The reports/questions, I felt, were geared more toward an insurance person than a home inspector. 

I agreed to cover a ton of miles (somewhere around 700 miles round trip) for a rate of $50-$60/inspection...after I finished those up, their price dropped DRASTICALLY...to the $30/inspection Jeff mentioned.  I also know the person I was in contact with at the time was quickly replaced after they paid out...ouch...

Since then, I've been contacted, and remained insistent that I won't pay to work for them.  Cameron, yes, they are desperate for guys to cover these and have been more pushy.  I keep telling them if they want quality work, they have to pay for it.  That usually stops the calls for about a month...

To clarify, the price on the one they offered was $40.00 and then they asked about what I would charge for distance since this one was about 30 miles away and I said $20.00.

I've looked into similar offers before and I just don't see having much business from them, the market here isn't that big. Also I'm stepping into the infrared arena(equipment and training starting this month!), leading a new Bible study at church and we just became foster parents(of a newborn). I'm not very old but I am definitely leaning towards the "grumpy old fart" mindset where you don't like figuring out new-fangled things. I just really wish people would get off my lawn!! ? Sorry, don't know where that came from.

I figure in the time I spent doing 5-7 of those inspections, e.g. going to the house, filling out the paperwork and uploading photos, I could spend that time marketing myself and probably get one inspection which would pay the same amount in the end. Especially if those 5-7 come few and far between.

So that was my thinking for now, maybe in the future it would be more tempting. It would have been a lot more appealing if the pay was $100.00 a shot, I have diapers to purchase! ?  Incidentally, how does nearly 10lbs. of crap come out of an 8lbs. baby?

Casey - Chatfield, MN. - Pop. 2,500 Closest City w/Pop. 50K+ --> 20 Miles

Heading out to an "Insurance Survey Inspection" which is the same as for photos, and about 30% more in the information/data interview portion. Pay: $125 + $40 travel fee. I have another lined up for next week. Pay: $125 w/no travel fee (within my primary service area).

Note: Another important tidbit of info... typically, the SiteCheck jobs are due within 1-2 days. True insurance survey jobs usually allow 2-3 WEEKS!

Now that makes it possible to schedule as "FILL WORK".

Anyway, what company is paying that?  I would consider doing this kind of inspection if the pay was that good.

I think I can speak for Jeff/Grumpy here; we both do work in the Cities.  In fact, there isn't anywhere in MN if the price is right.
And yes, you are being Grumpy, you could call and get your own camera for a week!

As Casey stated, I will travel anywhere as long as they pay my travel fee. The Cities (Minneapolis-St.Paul, as the locals call them, short for Twin Cities), is about 60 miles North of me. There are many a corn field between me and the Cities!

Going from memory, I think the longest travel I have done to date is approx 160 miles one-way. I frequently travel 90-100 miles one-way.

I deal with Site Check and about 7 other fee companies. I delt with Spectrum Services for about (2) years but they kept pushing more travel and less money. I asked off their list.
If you feel the money is not enough, tell them what you want you may get it (within reason) or simply limit your travel distance.
