Has anybody out there ever heard of a water heater warranty being voided because the annode was not changed?

No, but most warranties I see are only five years which is right about the time an anode might start being replaced.

After a while you need to check the hidden parts like your anode, just like you need to check your prostate. Sad but true, but also a necessity.  |

Steve, I just do the scheduling. As an inspector I do not use invasive techniques. The specialists come in for that.  |

Yes, warranties can be voided if the anode has not been replaced. I just changed an anode rod in a house I rehabbed. But for a different reason. Just an FYI, I noticed the rotten egg smell on the hot water side only; house has a well. It turns out that the anode rod was made of magnesium, which will react with any sulfide in the water and release hydrogen sulfide gas (rotten egg smell). The fix-change the anode rod to an aluminum rod. Anyway, the water heater documents did mention to have the anode rod inspected yearly or the warranty could be voided.
