This message board is a little staid - how about everyone offering what they think are the greatest lines from rock n' roll songs? I suggest:
"You're the cutest thing I ever did see, Really love your peaches, want to shake your tree..."

I love Steve Miller. "You're a joker, you're a smoker, you're a midnight toker." Used to listed to him a lot. I'll have to think about what my favorite line of all time is though!
You're right though, too many guys lurking around and not posting. I'll have to start sending harassing emails to the members to get them to post, hehe.

Your quote should be "I'm a... I'm a... I'm a..." but no matter...

It is probable that most people do not know the genesis of the song "Let It Be."
Paul McCartney's mother died from cancer when he was 14. That struck deep. Years later, during one particularly sad night, he had a dream (or was awakened by her) that his mother, shining somewhat, was standing at the foot of his bed, whispering to him. Among other things she said, "It is alright Paul. Let it be. Let it be."
If you read the words to the song in the context of that experience, they take on a whole different meaning. Here are a couple -
"And when the night is cloudy, There is still a light that shines on me, Shine on until tomorrow, let it be. I wake up to the sound of music Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be."
Oh, his mother's name was Mary...

I'm old. I know stuff. I have more rock n' roll in my head, well, no late stuff, than I care to admit. There's more to that story, but that is basically it. Do you know what "Hey Jude" is about...?

Didn't Paul write it for John's son when John and Yoko Ono were getting divorced?

Julian was having a girlfriend problem and went to Paul for advice, who was more a father to him than John. Paul's nickname for him was "Jude." They thought a song would impress the girl too...

I heard it in a radio interview ... on VH1 at 3am...
Some of the words:
"Hey, Jude, don't be afraid You were made to go out and get her The minute you let her under your skin Then you begin to make it better...
Hey, Jude! Don't let her down You have found her, now go and get her Remember, to let her into your heart Then you can start to make it better."
These lyrics support that interview. Who knows the real reason the song was written, but it is all plausible to me...

Maybe listening to VH1 on the radio? VA1 is a TV show - Sung Pao Ying got you, Round Eyes... here's one:
"Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight. Red is gray, and yellow white - But we determine which is right, And which is an illusion."
Moody Blues, "Knights in White Satin"

My brother talked gibberish until he was about 4. I was the only one who could translate the gibberish, I don't know why, and somehow understood what he was saying. Here are his first words, which everyone understood! I don't remember the title of the song:
"Oo - ee - oo - ah - ah - ting - tang - walla - walla - bing - bang."

From the Moody Blues In The Beginning
[ First Man: ] I think, I think I am, therefore I am, I think.
[ Establishment: ] Of course you are my bright little star, I've miles And miles Of files Pretty files of your forefather's fruit and now to suit our great computer, You're magnetic ink.
[ First Man: ] I'm more than that, I know I am, at least, I think I must be.
[ Inner Man: ] There you go man, keep as cool as you can. Face piles And piles Of trials With smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave And keep on thinking free.

Boy, to paraphrase those lines from the Stones that I quoted earlier from the song "Start Me Up", some of those words could --
"Make a grown [home inspector] cry..."!
Words like miles, and files, and piles, and trials - yikes!! I like the smiles and the great computer though! Keeps us thinking free...

David - I love the Moody Blues! Here's my favorite poem in all of their songs. It comes at the end of "Nights in White Satin":
"Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day's useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is gray and yellow white, But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion?"

We aren't worried about the "Big One..."
Hurricanes this north just replenish the dry reservoirs... then we, unlike you southern CA'ers, have something to drink and bath in... we water our gardens... wash our cars... you know, life in general. We call it water.

Basic Civil War history... John Mosby was a general in the Confederate Army of the South, or CSA. He lead a group of cavalry soldiers, all free-wheeling wild men, undisciplined and smart. He was allowed free reign, by Generals Lee and Stonewall Jackson, to act in ways that weren't typically army like. There was no saluting, they used guerrilla tactics (learned from studying George Washington), didn't march, camped where ever they wanted and generally had Northern Virginia to themselves (sounds like my Boy Scout troop - you should see one of our Capture the Flag games...). They liked a small mountain right near my house. A real group of rascals. They are regarded as the reason Lincoln didn't send too many thrusts into Northern Virginia. Lincoln lost both Manassas campaigns, an important railroad cross roads. They were sometimes referred to as Mosby's Ghosts. Once they went into Fairfax City and kidnapped three high-ranking Union soldiers, including a general, from the courthouse, escaping before word even got out that he was missing (that night they stayed in my backyard...) That raid gave them the moniker of "ghosts." I drive by that courthouse often - it is still there. The reason Virginia folklore has people paint their front porches light sky blue is to ward off ghosts. If you do not, it is said, you can still hear Mosby's Raiders as they ride through the area, usually at night, always as a group and heard stopping at your door. It is also said that they stamp out forest fires to help protect and preserve their former territory. Here's a quick link: http://www.sonofthesouth.net/leefoundation/John_S_Mosby_Raiders.htmBasic Civil War history...

His arm was buried, along with many other appendages, near the Chancellorsville battlefield where it was amputated after he was shot. The rest of him is buried on the campus of what is now Virginia Military Institute. His local high school is not very far from my house...

And you would have to really be up on Civil War history to know about Mosby. When I said it was "basic" stuff, I was being facetious...
