I don't want to modify the original item in the list as a permanent issue. I just want to be able to add a quick something to the end of an item chosen from the list for a single, unique report.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Ok, we figured out that Stephen was referring to the selection panels area. Yes, in that area any changes to the narrative become part of the template.

Actually, I think you can do just what you are saying. After you move the comment to the Black/Red, you double click and the "Enter Comment Text" window opens. Here is where you are making your list selections. But you can also add text in this same window.
Wouldn't that accomplish what you need? Or do you have bug in your program which is not allowing you to place the cursor and add text in this same window?

ohhhhhhh....
That makes sense now. We were throwing that word "list" around but we were never referring to the same thing. I seriously thought Steve got a bug in his program or a virus or some other thing.
Dom, doesn't the next version have the drop-down lists being added to the selection panels?

Already in 2.9 which you can download in the beta section. That's exactly what Steve was talking about!

I have found the list feature pretty useful. I am sorely disappointed that they are not "master lists" and have to be re-created for every template. That is a huge drag and time sink. Spending the time to create a huge list of lists only to have to do it all over again for each template you use sort of "kills the buzz" about using the lists feature in the first place. Just to put this out in the proper forum:(was addressed as a "feature request" elsewhere) 1. Ability to sort/move the list name in the stack of lists. The stack can get quite long and can contain little used lists. Sort alpha or just have the "move up/down" functionality like on the right side. 2. Ability to "re-name" a list. (I understand the issues with this breaking the feature if the currently named version has already been used elsewhere.) 3. Ability to copy the list stack and drop it into another template would be sweet. Build it once and use it universally.

I'm so confused!!! Dominic you must be up to your eyeballs in snow up there (kinda like Jack Nickleson in The Shining)I think you oughta come down here to Florida for a week and show us all the tricks in the bag! By the way we had a wind chill factor down here of 72 degrees today.

How can you make lists hang around? There are examples of adding multiple lists to a comment, such as the location on the exterior. But, when you move the comment to the damage panel and double-click on the comment. You have to choose an item in all of the lists at that time because when you close that comment, the lists disappear. So, if I create a comment about lights not working in the following locations and put 10 copies of the same list, it does not really help me. Once I encounter the 1st broken light, I have to choose the location and the other 9 lists are gone. Anyway to make the lists hang around? Thanks.

Hmm, interesting question. You could build the list on the left side as it'll save the list select as a default. Then move it over at the end. Other guys might have a few suggestions, I'm trying to think of a different way around that situation.

I tried building the list on the left but it would not save the selections. Am I missing something? Thanks.

No, I just looked this over. Building it on the left would only work in selection panels. I might need to build in a default selection into the damage panel like I did the selection panels.

i hope im just missing something here... but it appears that you can't choose an item from a list in mobile HIP? is that right? from what i see the list feature is great for the desktop, but im trying to get mine set up to get 80-90% of the report done on site.
if i find the toilet in the <<basement bathroom>> is loose if i cant select them in Mobile, ill have to carry a pad and pen so i dont forget. OR, set up multiple bathrooms which would be a million clicks.
TIA

Not yet. Mobile HIP just came out 2 months ago so we're working through a few last issues on some of the devices then are going to finish polishing up the Mobile version with lists, colors and a quite a few other features on the to-do list. The list feature is actually at the top of the list as it's the last main feature the desktop has that mobile doesn't.

I printed out Dan's "How to use Lists" but when I click on a comment and hit add comment, the boxes are grayed out where I cannot enter any data. How do I create a list to add and does this only work with a newer version of HIP? I have HIP 3.

Hi Greg,
Click Edit Lists first to add a new list. Then you'll be able to add one. Yes, it only works in HIP 3 (which you have).

Thinking of using a tablet/computer device such as the HP elitebook 2760P could I still use the mobile app without sending info through the cloud since the tablet and the computer are one in the same? I'm looking for an easier way to use the tablet which seems like mobile HIP is the way to go or could I use the regular program where I pull comments over which seems longer to do?

This is a Windows device, it would use the normal version of HIP which was designed for tablets.
