What are your thoughts on publishing your pricing on your web sites?
Should I have a form to fill in that automatically comes up with a price?  Like a spread sheet that calculates the price based on size, age, location etc.  Or should I just give a general idea or not mention anything about a price?
Thanks

The more info you give the less calls you'll get. You just want to mention a starting price and the factors that affect the price. We've proven this a few times with sites that were at the top of Google and went from 2 to 20 calls in a month immediately after changing from too many details to telling the person to call.

I've considered that.  I guess if you get a call, you have a chance to sell yourself.  When I shop on the internet, I don't bother with sites that don't give me prices.  There may only be a few people like me though.  If out of the 20 callers, 17 don't hire you, you are still better off than getting all of the 2 callers.

Edit: Mentioning a starting price may keep someone like me interested.  Good point.

Yup, and those who will only call if you have a price are looking for the person with the dirt cheapest price.

When I get a "how much do you charge call" my reply is, "How much do you want to know?".

You can't do that with a web page.

You don't control the conversation unless your the one asking the questions.
Every question they ask is to "eliminate" you from the list.

The goal of a web site (and all other forms of advertising) is to make the phone ring.
You can talk about your business all you want, but you must leave something out that they need to know. The most powerful need is the cost.

Hi Bert,

In my opinion I would show the prices based on sq/ft and and offer them to call if they have questions regarding prices. When I go hunting for something on the web I want all info up front period. I will skip past the sites that in my opinion lack information.Certainly if the other Inspectors with web sites state different then follow the advice. Good Luck Smiley
P.S  The inspect4U training in Alliston ,Ont is excellent. Finished the first 30 hrs this past weekend and 30 more next weekend !!

Hey Gene,

Let me know how the reporting session goes.  I believe they'll be covering Home Inspector Pro for 4 hours.

I'm a bit like that as well.  Giving a base price but not all the details may satisfy guys like you and me but it may also leave enough uncertain to entice them to give me a call.

That's good to hear.  I'll be driving through Alliston tomorrow but see your course is on weekends.  After next weekend you'll be done then?
