Installed a water heater at my house yesterday.  Used the shark bite fittings, nice, no soldering.
My old tank was so full of sediment the drain valve hardly works and the old tank is still full off water.

How do you get the water out??

Is the drain valve assembly removable??

Hi. David.

Well now that your tank is disconnected, it might be a little harder to clear the valve.
When it is connected, you shut off the power, shut off the water feed to the tank, and connect a water hose to the drain valve. The other end is connected to a water source and then once removing the aerator on the sink faucet hot water side, you open the water and dislodge the sediment.

Now that it is disconnected, you can put a pan under the valve and see if you can dislodge the debris with a wire or small brush through the valve, but that might not work. Crimp the outlet pipe, and introduce air pressure or water pressure from another source and it might work the same way. Back and forth and back and forth. It should give way. Hopefully you have a floor drain close by.

Drain was just clogged with sediment.

I took it apart and it drained, friend helped me remove from basement.

Mine is electrical, Hvac and computers. Now get me on structural or frame, I'm there. Actually you and I have shared some good conversations/ threads/ posts, here and Nachi's MB on exterior, structural, frame, etc. I kinda wish there was more structural threads/ posts here at HIP.

Understandable about structural. Most come here to learn about structural framwork that pertains to computers, and not Building. 

Did you ever stop and think why you need a license for Electricians and Plumbers?

Seems like all the States care about is to make sure power is safe, and your sh$t flows down hill, but no one seems to care if the roof falls in, anyone can stick frame a house today.

Yeh. actually I like to inspect stick frame. I'm kinda dissapointed when I get a truss frame. It's hard for them to screw up a truss frame. It's boring compared to inspecting a stick frame. It might be harder to inspect a stick frame, but bring it on, I like the challenge, much more interesting.
