Well, that's a wrap...65 pages...I know, sounds beastly, but with the client having never seen the home, I think it's fitting to include more pictures.  Not to mention that there were plenty of problems.   

Until I get my tablet more set up, and feeling more confident using it on site, it's lots of pictures for notes.  Digital pics are free and easy to remove when needed.  Faster than pen/paper too.

Yep, digital pics are cheap. Sure beats the hell out of paying for 35mm film and develop.

Ha ha...nah, just had to make sure you were awake over there!    Thanks for all the advice, in all seriousness.  Guys, if you haven't already figured out, Jeff is one of those very rare people that simply wants to help out.  Our service areas totally overlap, yet he has never once refused to help me out, and it's made me a hell of a lot better inspector than I could have hoped to be.  Total contrast to some of the other local guys here, who made a point of telling me when I started that they do not help their competition in any way, shape or form.  Thanks buddy!

I always knew that Grumpy was a good guy Casey. My intuition was right on.

Jeff, I do the inspection exactly like you and basically learned that from all over here.
I download all my pics into Picassa and pictures are taken in the same order I do the inspection. Then I can look at both the pictures and the report when working on it.
I download all of them in HIP when the report is done and just don't use the ones I don't need so they don't print out.
Dominic did one hell of a job with this software reporting system. The more I use it the easier it is getting. But with the few inspections I do, I am learning something everytime I use it.

Thanks to all the guys here and Dom for making this reporting a little easier.
Just wish I could bragg about doing 5 inspections aweek, but that is not going to happen.

I don't know if I've ever taken even close to 400. Usually about 200. But I do mostly new homes or newer homes. I've got a 1988 home coming up next week. That's an old one for me. I don't write anything down either, have always used the camera instead of notes, especially since I can't read my own writing.
Jeff, you mentioned looking for a graphic earlier in thread. It would be nice to have a category here on message board for graphic images, charts etc. Different pages for foundation, roof, cladding, HVAC, Plumbing, Electric, etc. New pages for all possible categories of home and inspection. I think this would be helpful for all as a source for adding to reports, blogs, etc.
I think one time Dom said he would get it added as he updated the system here or something. What is thoughts on this?

Yes Dom, the batch add is a fantastic feature...problem is going through 80+ pages of pictures!    Having the pictures show up in the selected section now is a great thing though...don't have to keep flipping back and forth between report and photos.

Not a bad idea Joe...something you're going to start?

I believe my record, or should I say a houses record, is 676 pics on a 2300 sq/ft. I only took so many due to a "gut feeling" to "cover-my-butt".

Like the idea of the graphics thingy Joe, but as Casey inferred, it would need to be well organized, or it would become too difficult to use, and then become useless. Good example... the Nachi one is nice, but too time consuming to find just the right graphic. Usually I just give up.

Jeff, yes needs to be well organized. I agree Nachi's can be frustrating clicking back and forth. If we have each category on a seperate thread we just scroll down images.
Casey, I don't mind getting it started so everyone can keep adding.
If Dom, can set up a seperate category title on message board cover page titled something like Library of Images, Graphics, charts, etc. i will get started naming seperate pages for different items for a running thread for everyone to share their images/ graphics.

I could setup a gallery for you guys to share photos & graphics on if you guys would be interested.

Nick offered to let me bundle the NACHI graphics into the program. The only issue is that the graphics would increase the download size a ton so I'm considering making it a separate package.

Great idea Dom. Searching through 200 pages of a thread to find a "maybe" graphic would take way too long, especially because no one would be able refrain from talking in the thread.

Ideas for categories? Should they match the current sections on the message boards in the inspection section?

A filing system for graphics would have to be catologued like shown here. http://www.arcat.com/sd/specifications.shtml

This is the standard breakdown for Divisions, in a regular specification book for building , Sweets Catologue and then it is broken down even more within a certain division ex. 0700, 07010, 07020. Just a thought for folder type identification. ?
