Many of you guys know about Alexa rankings. This is one of the tools that some search engines use to determine how popular your site is and can affect ranking on certain search engines. You can check your Alexa ranking by going to http://www.Alexa.com and looking up your site rank (change the drop down box). If will also give you some stats on your site. How it gets this data it similar to the Nielson Ratings. Basically Alexa has a toolbar that you can download at Alexa Toolbar . It uses the number of people using the toolbar who visit your site to come up with an approximation. If you install the toolbar, each time you visit your site, you'll be helping your Alexa rankings! Check out some of the rankings of your sites and your competitors.

Well, I checked and I am in the top 3,244,091 !! Woohoo !! Out of how many sites? So if I bring that up to the top 1,000,000 am I doing well? I'm not being facetious... would that be good?

Yeah I'm 2,214,104. What does that mean? Seems almost like the same info google analytics gives out. They both tell me one way or another that I'm not on the first page yet! lol

This is out of the billions of sites on the internet. You'll see your numbers go up as you and other people visit your site more. You can install this into firefox and internet explorer. Keeping it on will help your sites rank. I think we're around 279,000. Been below 100,000 when new versions come out and everyone visits the site.

Hi Dominic, When I added the toolbar to firefox and checked my ranking I came up at 3 mil+. Not it also shows only 3 places as linked in to me. Any idea why that is. I'm sure there are more than that linked to my site from the message boards. Or is that only because 3 other people have the toolbar installed?
Any clue?

Each search engine is aware of different links to your site. Yahoo shows the most. Go to yahoo and type in link:http://www.homestarinspectionsny.com to see a full account. If you did the same on Google it would only show sites with a page rank of 4 or more. Keep watching your rank over the next few weeks. Keep your site as your home page (or one of them since you can open multiple tabs in FF).

Ok, got it. I didn't know it was to go in the search box. I put it in the address bar. No wonder it didn't work.
139 popped up. I guess I need to work on getting that higher.

Since beginning the regular blogging, now three weeks or so, and installing the RSS feed to the News location on my site, and linking the AR blog to the blog page(s) on my site, and having people subscribe to my blog, (all done per Maestro) - my website has gone from 3.24 million to 1.38 million. That's pretty quick.
I have also noticed that since I have done this, Dominic's ranking has gone from a consistent 289K to now 220K. So I am helping his site too*.
And I'm seeing better...
xxoo The Pig With Cataracts
* Okay, his site might just be helping mine...

Yeah so it hasn't changed. Our traffic keeps going up too. Oh well. We were close to 100,000 6 months ago and have 3 times the traffic.
