I've been completely open with everyone who has asked about the program, and would like to remain that way. This program has been designed from the start by Home Inspectors and the only way to keep it a great program is to have constant input from you guys.Hi Guys,

I've finished up the beta version of 2.5.7. There have been a TON of new features and updates since the last release. If you're up to trying out the beta version of the software, and did you receive an email with the link to the program, just let me know. Even if you have not purchased the program yet, you can try on the beta.

If you find any bugs or have any questions, post them here so we can get a good discussion going. Also, inspectors have been posting their sample reports and discussing possible new updates.

Below are a list of all changes to the program since 2.5.5 which was the last publicly released version, lots of important new features!

2.5.7

New Feature: Can type in url's into a comment and it will become a clickable link in the report.

New Feature: Additional options for what is contained in the header/footer of each page have been added. They can be changed in the Report Settings->Option.

New Feature: In Edit Template you can now move and copy items from the right side (tabs) to any other section. Just click the Move/Copy button after selecting the section.

New Feature: Under Company Information there is a date format selection box so that you can choose the way you want dates to be displayed. The formatting is no longer linked to the country you are in.

New Feature: When you are in the Edit Comments mode and select a comment it will now stay selected when you move it up/down. You can also move more than one items up/down at a time and they will all stay selected.

New Feature: The open and save template have been completely rewritten to allow for easier selection of templates and to prevent accidentaly overwriting a template. When saving a template you can type in a name for the template (i.e. Condo Inspection Template) and a description of the template as well as a description of the template (i.e. This template is designed for condos downtown in tall buildings where the roof and exterior are not important and have been removed). It is ok to make the file name the same as the template name. If you try to save a template over a template with a different name you will be presented with a warning message. Please let us know what you think of this new feature.

New Feature: When saving a template the name of the last opened template populates the file name field.

New Feature: When saving an inspection the file name will automatically be populated with the current inspection file name if there is one (you had to reselect it before), or the pdf name if you have already saved the pdf.

New Feature: When saving a pdf the file name will automatically be populated with the name of the inspection file if you have saved the inspection already.

New Feature: You can now make any template the template that opens when the program starts. Check the designated box when saving the template.

New Feature: Enter Key responds the same as clicking add button when typing in the add comment box.

New Feature: Updated for Mac OS Leopard Compatibility

New Feature: Added Age of Home to Client Info and cover page.

New Feature: Added Size of House to Clienfo Info and cover page.

New Feature: Added a Clear All Photos option to the Photos menu. This will clear all the photos currently added to the report (useful if you batch add the wrong folder).

New Feature: Inspection file name or template name will show at the top of the site. Once you save or open an inspection file the name will appear at the top of the program even if you save a template as it's assumed you are updating your current template, but the inspection job is the primary focus. If you open the program and click Open Template, then the template name will appear unless you open or save a client inspection.

Design Change: Huge improvements in batch photo addings. Can now run using much less ram than before and will run faster and smoother.

Design Change: Improvements made to PDF rendering. The total time to create the pdf should decrease a bit.

Design Change: When adding new areas to a template the damage panel and selection panel names are now checked to make sure that the names are not already used on the same page. Names must be unique.

Design Change: If you use Batch add photos multiple times the previous batch will not be cleared. We added a Clear All Photos option instead. The reason for the change is to make the process simpler for multiple inspector teams. Now you can batch add the photos from one camera card, then batch add the photos from the next.

Design Change: Description text now takes affect immediately, before you had to save template then reopen the template.

Design Change: If there is no description text there will not be a space printed out in it's place.

Design Change: When you click open template the current client info will be cleared.

Design Change: When you click print preview only pdf files will be shown in the file chooser.

Design Change: The Report Settings menu was updated to use Edit Comments rather than Edit Tables.

Bug Fix: If you have enough comments in a single section such as Bathroom->Cabinets to fill more than a page, you do not get a full page gray box with the words Bathroom Cabinets.

Bug Fix: Logo image quality was reduced in the last version due to optimization. This has been fixed now to maintain high quality logos. You will need to remove the old logo and add your logo again to see the affects of this

Bug Fix: Letters such as g,p,y no longer hang slighly over the header border.

Bug Fix: Once you set a section for a photo to print in you were not able to undo the sections by setting them to blank to leave the photo in the file, but not in the actual report. Fixed.

Bug Fix: Large logo images (over 400 pixels wide) were not being centered properly. All large images will now properly be shrunk down to 500x100 pixel max and aligned properly.

Bug Fix: Documents can now be printed on their own page before the summary page when in continuous mode.

Bug Fix: Documents can now properly be printed on the same page as the summary when in continuous mode.

Sincerely,

Dominic Maricic

This is a great site Dominic.
I can't wait to test the new MAC version. I am starting to see the power behind this program.

Hey Steve!

The Mac version is coming along. The biggest issue is that I need to be very strict with all the button sizes. It seems the sizes I set for windows does not carry over the same. You should have a new beta to test in the next few days though with at least the features you see above Smiley

Thanks for all your input too. You've been an awesome tester, and your screen shots are extremely helpful!

I have been a Mac user since the 1st version of OS9. Before that I thought MAC's sucked, now when I go back to use Windows I can really see the diff like night and day.

I used to be a huge opponent of mac as well. Especially when I was network administrator for schools. Buying a mac used to be 5x more expensive than me building a PC. Now it's only twice as much. Switching over to the intel architecture has done wonders for mac, and their sales.

Vista and the great Mac ads. Those are funny. I actually like using Vista, but only after I turned off all the crazy security.

Not happy with the way it opens in slide presentation mode.
Logo upload not functioning.
Uploaded and could not find it as part of my uploaded PDF's other than when clicking the email link.
As far as the PDF goes I liked it opening with bookmarks on the left side as a table of contents,
Now some people may not realise you can click on them to open them.
Also report is still spelled wrong in the e-mail link to client.repoort

Hi Bob,

Thanks for pointing some of these things out. The 'repoort' mis-spelling is actually not in the program at all. It's on a totally different program that resides on the server, it won't matter which version of the program you are running.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you uploaded it and could not find it. When you upload a report to the upload service it will appear under your account under the Inspection Reports link on the left hand side.

I see the issue with the slide presentation mode. I forgot to include a file with the new beta. I'm correcting that now and will check that out and will upload a new version in a few minutes. I'll check out the logo issue too. I made quite a few improvements trying to optimize the program for people running on 256 megs of ram and might have overdone it.

Ok, logo issue and pdf presentation mode both fixed. Bookmarks are back where they are supposed to be. To get the new version just use the same link above (I didn't change the file name, I just overwrote the file).

Let me know if it works better.

By the way, I'd really like to know how the Batch Photo Add works for those of you who have old computers, or not much ram, or have newer computers but were taking high resolution photos. The reports really won't visually look any better with anything above 2 megapixels, but some people take larger photos obviously. Let me know how it goes.

On my dual core laptop with 2 gigs of ram, I just loaded 207 photos with each being 1.5 to 2 megabytes.
It took 1 minute, 27 seconds to load them all. Not bad!

I downloaded the new updates, thank you for doing all of them.

Some questions:
Where do I pick "bullet" option in between comments?

Under open template- it says template name ,template description, but niether did anything. Under save template it says, file name , template name, I am not sure what that means but I did check the box for my default to open and it did. Maybe you should remove the open template info and keep the save ttemplate info?

Is the low resolution problem fixed?

Are the creating documents problems corrected? (centering)

Where do I match the words Report Summary to my size, font, color?

Am I able to (or does it now have) spaces in between lines on the cover page? Can I adjust font size or bold items on the cover page?

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately I did not get to most of the items that were on your list. The main focus was the items that I have listed above. I ended up spending the entire past week rewriting the Bulk Add Photos as there were quite a few people having problems using it if they have a very low amount of ram on their computer and were trying to import too many photos. Now that I have that out of the way I can spend the next couple of days getting to the other items on my 4 page list, like the ones you're talking about.

The bullet option was remove while I try to come up with a good bullet. I have it working with an * but I need to find a bullet which is basically a character in a font that both windows and mac computers have.

I did redo the problems that low resolution caused on the photo page to move the 2 check boxes to their own line but it made the photo so small you could barely see it. So I moved it back while I try to figure out how exactly to fit so much information onto the screen when you're running at 800x600.

For the new open/save template. When you click open template, you can't change the name or description, they are set to read only. The information is meant to be entered when you are saving a template, and then it will appear the next time you go to open a template. Here's an example for when you're saving.

FileName: Timpani Residential Con
Template Name: Timpani Residential Template for Condos
Description: This template is setup specifically to handle condos. Multiple sections have been removed that are considered common areas. The pool section of the report was removed, as well as the roof. Certain comments were added to reflect condo associations.

Note that the file name and template name COULD and probably would be the exact same for most people on Windows. Unfortunately on a mac, you can't have really long file names (like windows used to be limited as well). Because of this I created a filename field which is going to be the actual file name, and a template name field which is the name of the template that will show at the top of the program when you open it, as well as help you determing which template it is.

Once you have entered this info on the save template, you will see it on the open template. If you sent your template to another person, they would also see the info, which would be useful to them (gives them an idea of what you were thinking).

Does that make sense?

By the way, now that the big stuff is done, I can put out another new beta in a few days with several of the other new options.

Mark, did you try changing the border format under Report Settings->Options?

Sure thing. I wish I had gotten more done. But now that some of the major items are out of the way, I can spend this week working on a lot of the smaller items.

Questions for Dominic and other users on adding pointing objects to photos and changing comments.

After adding several elements there doesn't seem to be a way to delet individual pieces without undoing them all and starting over. Is this correct?

Is there a way to adjust the line thickness on boxes and circles?

Is there a way to make ovals instead of just circles?

Is there a way to move the circle. box around after creation?

It's going to take a fair amount of time to change the comments to those I like to use. I prefer complete sentences and more expansive comments.

Not a complaint but how are the current users dealing with this.

BTW-I have purchased the product and have downloaded 2.5.7

Hi Mike,

You can click the undo button on the button left to undo the edits you have made. Once you click save photo and it returns to the normal photo page, then you can't undo any more. At that point you'd have to remove the photo and re-add it.

At the current time you can't adjust the line thickness. It's something that I could easily add though, just didn't realize it was something people would like to use. I've put it on the to-do list.

After you've created a circle or box you can't move it. You can click undo then do it again.

The comments you add into the program can be as long as you want them to be. If they are longer than a column you can hover your mouse over the item and you'll be able to see a popup with the entire comment. This allows you to see lots of comments at once, but still be able to see an entire comment if you're not sure what it says. Russ Spriggs has comments that are literally entire paragraphs.

Just make sure to Save Template when you are done so that all your comments are saved for the next inspection. Most guys create multiple templates. I was talking to Charley Bottger last night and he's on his 3rd template I believe (Residential, Mold, Pre-Inspection).

Hopefully I've answered everything! Let me know if you have any more questions.

That was quick :-)

Maybe I wasn't clear on photo object editing.

If I for example add a circle, some descriptive text and an Arrow and then decide I don't need the circle, I have undo until they are all gone and start over. Is this correct?

The lines for the circle and boxes seemed way to thick for my taste. Perhaps a popup palet or right click option that would allow adjustment.

I'm sure I will have more questions as I get used to it but I sure appreciate you quick response and helpfulness.
