I updated some of my docs "edit docs" in my template. I used word and then copy and pasted them into a new doc under "edit docs". When I went to create a new report the docs that I created were not in my new report! I am glad I had saved them first otherwise I would have had to start 5 docs all over again... I called Dominic and he said this has been happening lately. He suggested to not copy and paste from word but to copy and paste from notepad. This worked and I was able to get all my docs back in order.
I just wanted to warn everyone so you don't have to go through what I went through and save your self all the trouble and about 3 hours work...He explained to me that he will be looking for a new HIP word program because the current one has some concerns. He is just busy now with the websites.
Just be careful with the docs...

Hi Mark,
Thanks for posting the info. I have heard a few people mention the issue, Bob Elliot was another. The problem is that MS Word actually copies a bunch of its own internal codes when you copy/paste. When you use notepad it strips it all.
I just had a thought. Mark can you try saving your word file as a txt file rather than a doc and see if that will allow you to copy from word? That should tell word to not use the extra code.

Hey Guys,
Did either of you try saving the doc as a text (txt) file yet? I'm curious if this works for you. I don't have the latest version of office to test on (I use OpenOffice).

Not yet, I had an inspection today and just finished the report. I will give it a try,it's just very scary as I don't want to mess up my docs template again.

Just create a new doc and test it on that doc only. Trying one doc won't mess up all your other ones. I'm going to rename this thread so people know what it's about and can find it easier.

I copy and pasted a txt doc into the doc program and then selected "grounds" and "place on same page" then save inspection and generate, but when I went to my "sample" report it was not there.....

Damn, ok, must still have the codes inserted. What version of word are you using by the way?

Do me a favor and email me a few copies of the bad documents from your Data\Documents folder. There must be something in particular that a recent office update caused as I haven't changed the document section of the program in a few months but no one has had issues until recently.
For now just copy through notepad like you have been.
Thanks

For those that can't find notepad. On XP: Click Start->run type in notepad and hit enter On Vista Click Start->Type notepad in the box directly above it and hit enter
Then paste your document from word to notepad. Then copy from notepad to the documents section in HIP
