Lots of home inspectors have expressed an interest in sharing the templates they have worked on as well as discussing ways to create better ones. I've seen home inspectors create templates in 4 different languages, English, Spanish, French and Italian, as well as templates for 10 different countries. Obviously there is a lot of variation out there.
Home Inspector Pro is also being used for lots of different types of inspections and have created templates to reflect that. I've seen templates for single family homes, condo's, mobile homes, boats, commercial buildings, apartment complexes, EIFS inspections, commercial a/c systems, college campuses and more.
What have you done? What are you trying to do, share you info! You can attach your tpz file if you want to share your template, or even a pdf to show what your report looks like.

I'm game . . . However, I'm more interested in SWAPPING templates with other folks who have completed versions, than just giving away a week's work!
Email me if you're interested - I don't do PM's . . .

How do you go about swapping templates. Do you simply click on a file and add it to this forum or what ?

Hi John,
First, use the normal reply button option not the quick reply at the bottom of a post. Click on Additional Options Click Browse next to the Attach window Browse to your template which is a .tpz file. If you're on windows it will usually be stored in C:\Program Files\Home Inspector Pro\Data I'm going to have an export feature added soon that will bundle the documents with the template for easier distribution. Right now you'd need to attach the documents as well (which are in the \Data\Documents folder).
You can also just attach a recent pdf which will show the layout you're working on.

Are the templates cross compatible. Could I (mac user) take a windows made template and use it?

Does anyone use HG? I have been using the nachi system by system since I started and I have a mind freeze about creating or modifying a template. Does anyone here have a template based on HG? HG 4.0 crashed after spending 2hrs on a report. I want to move on.

Scott, look at the Texas Template. It's basically a system by system. You can work from there. Or talk to Russ or Charley or any of the other guys using a system by system. You could also just create a template to match what you had in HG. Watch the Animated Tutorial on editing a template.

Hey Dom is there a way to copy stuff from one template to another? I was looking at copying the fireplace section of the Texas template to the template I use. If there isn't, can you put that on the list of things to add to the software?

You can copy the narratives. Open the Texas template and go to the fireplace, click on a comment and hit ctrl-a to select all and everything should highlight. Click on copy button (or ctrl-c). Open your template, go to destination section, click on a comment and click the paste button (or ctrl-v). Don't forget to save when you're on your destination template.

I ran into another prob. I went to edit my template to create another fire place section calling it 'fire place 2' for the time being. Problem is, when I hit add, it doesn't do anything. Is there a lock on the new version?

HI guys,
When I highlight a narrative inside the Texas template "fireplace" and use Ctrl-A it does NOT highlight the rest BUT here how it works for me...strange... I un-highlight the narrative then use Ctrl-A is then highlights all the narratives... Either way having that ability is just fantastic for all the narratives I use!! Thanks Dominic

John,
No but make sure you've clicked the page on the left before you click add on the right. If you still have issue let me know and I'll connect remotely and see what you're doing.
Patrick you're right. You have to ctrl-a twice or check/uncheck like you said. This is because the proram has to know where your wanting to copy from.
