Hi Guys,
I made a change in how the link directory works today. Previously when you linked to another site, the link itself would be a 'redirect' which means the link to the other site linked to your site first (in order to count the number of times people click the link) then it would redirect to the other inspector or whomever's site. I changed this today so that there is no redirect, it's just a direct link to the other site. I have a feeling that Google will see this better and help everyone get better rankings. Let me know if anyone sees a jump in rankings over the next week or two.

Imagine how much fun I could have with these:
Alternative words
Following "bit," "byte," and "nybble," there have been some analogical attempts to construct unambiguous terms for bit blocks of other sizes.[6] All of these are strictly jargon, and not very common.
* 2 bits: crumb, quad, quarter, tayste, tydbit * 4 bits: nibble, nybble * 5 bits: nickel, nyckle * 10 bits: deckle * 16 bits: plate, playte, chomp, chawmp (on a 32-bit machine) * 18 bits: chomp, chawmp (on a 36-bit machine) * 32 bits: dinner, dynner, gawble (on a 32-bit machine) * 48 bits: gobble, gawble (under circumstances that remain obscure)
Hmmmm?

Byte is not really a new word for me. I remember hearing it in my college computer class - Fortran IV!

Nice change Dominc. Jay, I never went learned much more than BASIC although several of my friends went on into fortran and more. I started out on a Texas Instruments TI99-4A with an audio recorder and audio cassettes for media storage... we upgraded the system with a cool speech synthesizer which worked really cool with the game "PARSEC" then we upgraded to a VIC 20 and then the Comadore 64 with the truly floppy disc drive had to type "load" to load your programs. We were debating on getting an AMIGA but never did. My first full program I wrote (actually copied out of a magazine) was called "Downhill Slider" Took me six weeks of typing and another two of proofreading my errors only to watch an asterisk wiggle through a bunch of other letters and characters. Boy how far we've come today. I even remember the discussions of using compact discs for storage that would take the place of 10 floppy discs!!! My brother found some emulator that takes you back to those days but he warned me to never go there... said it brought back too many bad memories or some such for him and just wasn't the same.

Jay did you want me to translate that byte code?
Bill, the emulator was probably MAME. I haven't used it in a long time but used to play burgertime and super bagman and donkey kong and dig dug on it. Great games!
Luckily I never neded to learn Fortran. I did learn GBasic and QBasic, ADA, Assembly, Prolog, LISP, C, Java and another 3 or 4 obscure languages I'll never use. Though NASA still uses ADA a lot which is about 25 years old as its too expensive to upgrade their systems. Kind of scary.

You may translate. Into Chinese please (for Song Pao Ying).
I never learned Fortran either... but that is another story.

Hu? lol I learned Hexadecimal in the Navy (I think it was hexadecimal. I've slept since then). Or um, tried to learn. It was sooooo fun to have our Sonar crash and have to run down and restart it using a bunch of push buttons, that if you didn't do it perfectly, you had to start over. What is that, like 40's technology or something? Fun times!!! lol Oh and our processors; we had two! Each one was the size of 2 small filing cabinets! They totaled 1 Meg of processing power!!!! LMAO And we had one of the better systems at that time!!!

Haha. It is funny to think that the weakest calculators are more powerful that what we used to go to the moon. Hexidemical, yes base 16. Fun But I taught math too, so I gotta love it.

Oh, it's not that bad, come on. What's 64 in Hexadecimal?
I actually had to teach it for quite awhile, so it's stuck in my head.

Dominic, Some time back you said that metatags and urls on links improve SEO. Would you say that by filling these in when we do links it improves our ratings on a scale from 1-10, how much? Also on July 7th I asked you to look at my site, (because when I searched on "Google" for "home inspection Denver" I went back to page 30 and never did come up). You suggested to add "home inspector" and "Denver" on the home page. We did that and also put them on other pages. My one question to you was "was Google" not seeing me because my company because it's "Denvers Best Home Inpsection" because of "Denvers", (no apostrophe). I added the apostrophe. I think it did wonders. So guys, look at things like that. Thats a heck of a big improvement!

Hmm, I totally believe that Denvers would screw it up. Because Denvers is not a word, so it's not matching anything. By putting Denver's you are showing ownership, and Google can drop the apostrophe and see it as Denver. Very good thinking!
As far as adding metatags and urls on links. I'd give it a 7. Basically every page you create that has the term home inspection is going to help. So if you link to Bill Warner and use dayton-thermal-home-inspection.html , you've gotten a few key words vital to you in your help. Same thing with the meta tags. It's not going to hurt you not to have them, but it won't help you either!

You said "So if you link to Bill Warner and use dayton-thermal-home-inspection.html , you've gotten a few key words vital to you in your help."
Do you mean we should be putting "their" city or (what) on their link info when we put their stuff on the "link set up page" ? Can you give us an example? Thanks!

Yes, use their city in the link. The city name won't be helping you but the words thermal and home inspection will be helping you. The city name will help them. One of the guys mentioned a few days ago that that he was searching his city name and a link on YOUR page came up above his link (his site was only a month old). Since your site has more weight to it, it came up higher.
The example is exactly what I had above. Bill Warner's company is Dayton Thermal Inspections, I added home in there as it helps out the rankings.
