I have one question,
Whats to keep people from paying the wrong amount for the inspection?
Say I charge $200 for an inspection. I give them a 10% discount for whatever reason. They owe me $180 now. If they want to pay online, they go to my website and pay $18. Would the online report get released to them?
Or say, if someone wants an inspection, books one via my site, then turns around and pays for it figuring the wrong price. Do I have a way of setting the price for each inspection before they pay for it and before it gets released?
Is there a way to set the price to where it automatically comes up with the correct amount? Say for instance, I charged Joe $200 for an inspection, I then post the report online, plug in a price for the report, then when Joe goes to pay for it via my website, the correct price is put in the price box for him so he cant make any 'mistakes'!!!
You get my meaning? If not, I'm sure I can come up with more examples. lol
How's this: https://www.homeinspectorpro.com/component/option,com_ccprocessing/Itemid,210/inspectorID,62/amount,350.00/You can change the amount on the end to whatever you want. You don't have to have to cents amount,350/ would work fine too.

This will work great on an iPhone. Sounds like a good excuse to me (and their new price tag) Works great on my Sprint mogul too.

My wife and I have a Jewelry business as well. So she is set up through her business to take credit cards already. Rather than set it up again, I tell my customers that it will show up on their statement as a different business. They don't seem to mind that, but then I tell them I charge an extra 15 dollars to process a 300 dollar order, because that is what it costs me, they then offer to pay by check:) www.propay.com if i didnt have it already, i would get it.

Charging extra for card use is likely against your wife's account agreement. Careful! Don't go public with it. You may show up on a Google search somewhere! ;-)
One way to get around this, is during the client interview. Asked them how they plan to pay before you give them a quote. You can give them a discount in other areas if they pay by check (to save you the accounting time etc.) but you just can't flat-out say if you want to use the credit card it costs $15 more.

Ditto what Dave said. Its illegal to charge more for credit card usage, but you can offer a discount for those who pay with cash or check.

I offer a 10% discount if they pay at the time of the inspection. I haven't fully been set up on c/c's yet but you can offer a similar discount if they pay by cash!
Just remember, we accept c/c's for the convenience of the customer. Without them, we potentially turn away customers who cant pay by cash or check. Whats worse, turning away customers, or payin a few bucks more to get their business? Its a small sacrifice to get a couple or few hundred to come your way!!!!

I have been accepting CC's for the last 6 yrs. Visa and MC. I offer a 10% discount for all military and seniors. If they don't pay at the time of inspection, I add $$$. Actually I will not release the report without payment and a signed contract. I have had realtors ask me to take the payment out of closing and been burned by a sale fail(more than once). No way, no how would I go to closing again. I do feel that accepting CC's is beneficial for all parties.

The thing with accepting CC's is it allows your client to not have to pay all the money up front, which makes them more likely to use you. They are making a huge purchase and spending money all over so it helps to be able to put it on the card at times. The thing is, if you lose one inspection a year because you didn't accept credit cards, you've lost too much!
