I am experiencing a very frustrating problem. It doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens MOST of the time. Since everyone here is so much into improving their SEO rankings, I'm sure you will understand how I feel. Anger, Panic, Frustration, Panic!!!! Here goes. I live in Staten Island, for those that do not know it, Staten Island is one of the five boroughs of New York City. The areas that I have targeted are Staten Island, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Manhatten Long Island. If you search "EIFS inspections staten island," my EIFS website shows up in the #1 and #2 positions, I also show up #3 and #4 from ActiveRain. This problem happens at my direct listings (my website address) or at an Active Rain listing. When I click on one of the listings, and the occurance changes from listing to listing, many times I am brought to some other website, or to mine for an instant and then to another. Sometimes it is to the same website, sometimes to a completely different website, sometimes to an HI search site or some other type of search site. Sometimes I am able to "arrow back" to get to the search results page, most of the time I am locked into the "pirate" site and have to do a completely new search to get away. Sometimes, if I try it a second time it works properly, sometimes a different one gets hijacked. Almost ALWAYS at least one of the listings gets hijacked. By the way, the sites I am brought to is usually in a different part of the country, so it's not like it will do anybody any good. But if someone is looking for an inspector, I'm sure they are not going to realize they have been kiddnapped or try to get to me again. I contacted one of the site owners, he was very nice and insisted he did nothing to create this situation. He gave me the name of his provider. All of the work and time that I (we) invest in trying to better our SEO and sites should not be in vain. IT JUST ISN"T RIGHT AND THERE HAS GOT TO BE A WAY OF PROTECTING OUR WORK. Steve I have two websites, the one that I have noticed the problem with is my EIFS website. I wonder if when my HI website rises in ranking if the same problem will occur? My EIFS website is eifsinspectionsnewyork.com,

Steve,
I don't think this has anything to do with the net itself, nor is it anything anyone else can see. It sounds like you have spyware installed on your machine that is basically redirecting you to links that have google ads for them therefore the spyware (on level with a virus) collects money. I tried replicating what you're talking about a good 20 times and saw nothing unusual.
Here's what you need to do. Go to downloads.com, type in Spybot and download, install, update and run the program. Reboot your computer and run it again. Let me know whay spyware it finds, I have a feeling it will be a lot.

Hi Dom,
Thanks for the help. Some other folks have told me it may be a computer specific problem also. I am at my gal's home right now and will try what you suggested when I get home. Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steven - that's good information! And scary... I understand the frustration and panic. I had not heard about Spybot, but can I use it along with Norton? Or would Norton catch what Spybot catches?? Steven, when you get home - can you remember to link to my site? You have been on mine for some time. The info is as follows: Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC www.jaymarinspect.comServing all of Northern Virginia. Thanks! Great post. I had not thought about that hijacking before, but will watch for it.

Yes, just don't setup the real time protection in spybot. Leave it and run it manually once a week.

Dom,
I ran spybot, it found over 400 infections. But it now says I have to register to remove them. Is that so??
Net week Fios is being installed here and it includes spyware. Since it seems that it is a problem that is onlt effecting me, I will wait until then and run the program> I f it doesn't help I will register w/spyware doctor, or alot of folks have been telling me about Norton 360. Is that any better?

I just ran it too and it "found" over 1000 infections on my computer as well. I wonder if everyone gets around 1000 things found? I have had Norton on my computer from day one and run a scan nearly every day. It finds cookies, but labels them as "low" in danger. I used to use Spy Sweeper and it always found more of them, but lots of people, including Dominic, told me to get rid of it, which I did. Should I stick with this Spy Bot?

Steve - I just checked in on your site and it sent me a box reading "Account Suspended." I hope that's just you working on it and that your Spyware infections haven't sent you to cyberspace...!

Dominic - I just ran SpyBot and it found three entries - MS Firewall Override and two Security Center suspensions that it wanted to correct. You, or Norton (I don't remember which) told me to override those things. If I click on the SpyBot fix, will it re-engage those things and force me to manually override them again?

Jay,
I think you were at an old site that is abandoned, my new addresses are eifsinspectionsnewyork.com and homeinspectionsnewyork.com
If you went to inspectmybuilding.com or inspectmyproperty.com, they are shut down. where did you get the link to them? I'm trying to update everything.

Steven,
Spybot is free, it shouldn't ask you to update anything. Make sure you download Spybot Search and Destroy from the linked above. Cookies aren't a big deal (not a security risk at least).
Jay, I didn't suggest those things so it must have been Norton, but that makes sense as Norton covers them with it's own software.

Steven - I have you under "Comprehensive Home Inspections and Building Consultants." Don't know where I got it, probably on this Message Board somewhere as I have not linked to anyone from another site. I can reinstall you under one or the other above. Thanks, Jay

Hi Jay,
Yes, I would like to link both. I plan on linking both of yours also. I just finished putting in your first one plus a few others. It is on my HI site. I checked out your website and am impressed.
How did you get yours in alphabetical order? Did you enter them that way? What happens when you want to add someone? Do you have to redo it all? I would think not.
Anyway, check out how I did yours, if you want me to change anything, let me know.
Steve

I do nothing but enter the data and the program organizes them alphabetically. I see where others organize them by states, which is cool, but I don't know how to do that. I will get your data in right away. As to mine, if you could add ,LLC that would be great! Thanks, Steve - Jay

Hey Jay,
To organize by states, you need to click on Link Categories and add the states as new categories, with a parent of Inspection Websites. There's an animated tutorial I put up about 2 weeks ago that shows how as well.
