There are some Home Inspector Pro users that have created Termite Inspection templates or combo Home Inspection / Termite Inspection templates. One of the items on my to do list is to create a way to drawing page that had a grid that you could use to draw out a home and add comments.
I need to know from you guys, what features you want to be part of this whether you were to use it for pest inspections, or even for part of your home inspection (like to point out where on the layout theirs a crack in the wall).
If you can attach images of any current drawings you may have, that would be extremely helpful. Let me know what you would want to see as part of this feature.

Dominic, in Oregon/Washington we combine the full home inspection with a WDO inspection. Ideally it would nice to be able to flag WDO items in the home inspection report and have go to a WDO report/diagram. At this time I am using an old program which I believe uses Microsoft paint for the diagram, I will email you a report when I can so you can see it.

That would be great. Visuals are very helpful. Would you just include one diagram in the report, or would you have multiple diagrams for different problems?

I use a diagram for the WDO report only at this time. I include pictures in the main report. I am planning with staying the same and only using one diagram for WDO items.

Do you make the diagram a full page? Do you lay text over it or have any special markings to denote different problems? If you can attach a sample to a post (click Advanced Options), that would be great.

Thanks Bill, that's a great example. What I'm envisioning is a grid that allows you to connect the dots to box out areas. How did you draw that current floor plan? Are you just drawing rectangles and then removing portions of lines? I'm trying to make this as simple as possible for inspectors to use!

Here is a sample of a pest diagram where I used the tools available within the Adobe Acrobat. The pdf file can be modified to use the line or rectangle tools and put the x's in the legend.
The WSPCA will be making modifications in the near future with the addition of the velvety tree ant. whooppee. another friggin pest to worry about. hope they decide to stay in Oregon.

Thanks for the diagrams. This helps me see things a bit clearer. I'll definitely need to include a ruler to make it easier to draw things to scale.

Dominic, Bill here. I believe when I click on the diagram button in my software it takes me to microsoft paint. I use a combination of the rectangle(some erasing) and the straight line function. The state doesn't require the drawing be to scale.

Ok, that makes sense. We'll be writing our own designer as it will have to work on windows and mac. Stephen has mentioned to me that Washington is asking for it to be as close to scale as possible so the option will be there. It will be up to you to use or not.

I do not do pest inspections in my business, but I can see where a way to make a rough diagram of the outline of a house that I am inspecting would be very useful. 3-D Inspection software has this type of feature. I would use the diagram capability to give a general layout of the home and indicate the compass settings in relation to it and also use it to point out areas where a defect may be, as mentioned earlier in this posting section. What I am seeing here, in these posts, is that HIP is going to be all inclusive of the "big three" (3-D; Inspectvue; and HomeGauge) options and features. Imagine that...having all of this functionality as the "big three" at less than half the price of ONE of the "three". Keep it going....I love it!

Thanks for the input Robert. It's good to know that it would be used more than just for pest inspections. When you insert a diagram now, do you want it to be a full page, or half page? Should I offer both as an option?

Let's go for the gusto and offer both. I am sure that with marine inspections and some of the other types, including home inspections, that a full page would be very useful.  |
