Hi Guys,
This is an important topic. I hope to get a lot of you guys to weigh in with opinion. I'm finishing up the first stage of the system that will email you each time an agent or client views your report. I will also be setting it up so that a log of the viewings including the time, who viewed it (agent or client), etc. I need to know what else you want to see added. Here is a sample of the email you would receive. Let me know what you think! The client email would be the same.
Hi {Inspector Name}
Agent: {Agent Name} has just viewed the report you uploaded regarding:
Client: {Client Name}
Time Agent Viewed Report: {Time Viewed}
Property Address: {Address Inspected}
Thank you for using Home Inspector Pro!
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Sincerely, Home Inspector Pro

By the way. New features already planned to be added to report uploads:
1. Credit Card Processing 2. Block viewing of reports before payment 3. Ability to delete reports 4. Set length of time agent/client can view report (won't affect length of time you can look it up).

I think you're talking about the email sent to the client. Here I'm referring an email that's being sent to YOU when a client views the report. Right now the email being sent to the client already has your name and company. As of yesterday, the replyto address is yours as well (see other post in this board). I do have a custom signature, plus custom content in the works for the emails that notify the client and agent.

Hey Joe, nice to see you posting on here!
I'm getting FedEx'd a package today to sign off on the credit card arrangement. Then I'll be able to get the code to start on that portion.

Make sure you guys check out some of the other threads on the messageboard, especially here in the beta section. This is where many of the new features come from!
Thanks Mourad. Glad to see you one here as well. Make sure to stop by the Introduce Yourself post in the general category.
Bob, I agree. I've had people asking me about deleting a report for awhile. The only issue becomes what type of message should be given to the client and agent if you delete a report. Do we just say it doesn't exist? Do we say to contact you for a new link?
How should things be worded if you set a 3 month limit on reports and someone looks at 4 months. Do you want them to contact you? Just tell them access denied? Got to be something friendly and encouraging them to get back in contact with you (probably for another inspection).

Dominic , I would not worry about a message as we would only delete for whatever reasons we have. No third party verification should be used on something of this nature. Better to worry about accidental erasure. I say the new email needs a good message to the client that says to save a backup in their own files. End of story

I was under the impression that we'd have some type of Master Log or page available where we could view all that info. If that's true, then I'm fine with it. An email notification is nice, but I don't get them now, or for the past 5 years, when emailing a report, so it's not a biggie to me. What is a biggie (and I won't take advantage of the upload service until this comes around) is the ability to have a form on file that goes out with the report as an email, personalized from me, such as what I use now: We appreciate the opportunity to conduct this inspection for you! Please carefully read your entire Inspection Report. Call us after you have reviewed your emailed report, so we can go over any questions you may have. Remember, when the inspection is completed and the report is delivered, we are still available to you for any questions you may have, throughout the entire closing process.
Properties being inspected do not "Pass" or "Fail.” - The following report is based on an inspection of the visible portion of the structure; inspection may be limited by vegetation and possessions. Depending upon the age of the property, some items like GFI outlets may not be installed; this report will focus on safety and function, not current code. This report identifies specific non-code, non-cosmetic concerns that the inspector feels may need further investigation or repair. For your safety and liability purposes, we recommend that licensed contractors evaluate and repair any critical concerns and defects. Note that this report is a snapshot in time. We recommend that you or your representative carry out a final walk-through inspection immediately before closing to check the condition of the property, using this report as a guide. Residential properties are inspected in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the InterNational Association of Certified Home Inspectors posted at: http://www.nachi.org/sop.htm . Commercial properties are inspected in accordance with the International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Commercial Properties posted at: www.nachi.org/comsop.htm We are lab-certified to perform mold, radon, meth and other testing services, should you require them. The United States Environmental Protection Association (EPA) recommends, “If you believe that you may have a hidden mold problem, consider hiring a professional.” (Brief Guide to Mold, p.14, EPA). If any area of the residence is suspected of having organic growth, or any member of your household is sensitive to mold, we are lab-certified to conduct a Mold Inspection / Sampling to identify the types of mold (or any other allergens) present.
The EPA recommends that all homeowners test their home for radon, as it is the leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. It is easy and inexpensive. If the radon level is 4 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher, a simple radon remediation system can be installed for simply venting the foundation of the home and providing an escape for radon gas so it does not collect in the structure. Law enforcement agencies estimate that only 10% of all meth labs are ever discovered. Even meth use can leave behind high levels of pollution that can sicken unsuspecting residents and poison a structure. We can also provide an in-depth Environmental Property Analysis which identifies any hazards on or nearby the property, such as Leaking Underground Storage Tanks, Landfills, Hazardous Waste and Farm Chemical Runoff Sites, “Superfund” sites, Department of Defense Sites and “Meth” Labs. REFERRAL REWARDS PROGRAM - We appreciate your business, and know that you will come in contact with others who will need a home inspection. Pass the word of our services and we’ll send you $20 when that lead results in an inspection. Make sure they mention your name; this will be an easy way for you to earn your inspection costs back. You could put that long message in a document. But having a custom message would be great. I do know that it is hard to change the program that way however from talking to dominic

Russ, yes a log of all the views is going to be kept. That's one of the items I listed in my 2nd post on this thread as on my to do list.
Custom messages are also coming. Im thinking the custom message should save as part of the template though so the you could have multiple messages. Or I guess I could just make it so you select a particular note during each upload. What do you think. Is one template going to have one notice?

Ok, I've been thinking about the logging feature. I can't think of any reason to store when you as an inspector view your own report. Over time this would add up to be a lot of extra data to save. Can anyone give me a reason why we should store when YOU view your own report online?

That is ok for logging the viewing, but what about printing. I would like to know if, when and how many times they print the report.

Unfortunately there is no way to detect a pdf being printed. Anyone could save it to their own computer and print it as much as they want.
