Hi Dominic, I wonder if you would be willing to look at my website. I need to know if I can make changes to make my site show up better in the web searches. I have implemented those things that I understood, from your message board and the NACHI tips. I would like to show up better using MSN. Also I would like to show up better when searching for " ND/ North Dakota Home Inspector " or " ND/North Dakota Home Inspection". Thanks for the help, Gerald Wilcox House Check Home Inspections www.homeinspectorinnorthdakota.com

Hi Gerald,
Sure thing, here are the things I noticed when going through your site. How are you ranking for your other words so far? Obviously this is a brand new domain name so it takes time for the search engines to recognize you. Most won't list sites right away (although they make exceptions at times) as they don't want fly by night sites (i.e. porn or spam) to make it to the top of the list.
1. Remove the " from your page titles, it doesn't help search engines cluster the words together, as google already recognizes words next to each other automatically.
2. Your home page description tag is good. Your kewords: "home inspection,Minot,Bismarck,Devil's Lake,Jamestown,Cities,North Dakota,Inspector,Professional,Certified,Registered,Independent" can use some help. Remove professional and independent and home inspection. Then change the other phrases to "Minot Home Inspections, Bismark Home Inspector, Home Inspector in Devil's Lake, North Dakota Home Inspector" etc. Any words that aren't going to be typed into a search engine are diluting the power of your other words. Also every word in your keyword and your description should be on the page itself, which you've done. Good job.
3. Rename your FAQ page to something like common-home-inspection-questions, right now it's at the default node/33
4. Make sure to update your keywords and description on every page. Rotate different words through different pages. It looks like for the most part you're doing this. If there's a phrase like "North Dakota Home Inspector" you're really aiming for, make sure to use it.
5. VERY IMPORTANT: Get people to link to your new site. If you can get them to link using the words "North Dakota Home Inspector" as the anchor text.
6. A copy of all the NACHI articles are here too, click Search Engine Optimization on the left menu on any page but the forums (where we removed the left menu for better viewing).
7. Under site information set your footer, include your copyright and "Performing Home Inspectors in ..,...,..,..."
Keep up the good work. The most important thing is people linking to you, especially using your keywords in their anchor text.

Thanks Dominic, I have implemented those changes, and they made good sense. The linking is important, probably much more than I realize, but I find it to be a pain to keep up with. It would be nice if one could opt in to a link administrator, who who could just add all the linking partners to the site.....I know that I am dreaming though. Hi Gerald,
That's actually been suggested by a few of the guys and it's something I've though about implementing. It will be quite a bit of work to do though so it's a bit lower on the priority list, but I do hope to get it done. For now use the topic stickied at the top of the thread. Links to your site account for at least 50% of your website rankings so they are very important to have quality, quantity and the anchor text to have your keywords in them.

Hey Gerald,
You want to post that info at the thread in the top of this SEO section so all the guys see it and get an email notification that there's been a new update. It's called link exchange and is the first post.
