First of all these are not "major" problems but you should be aware of them.

1.  When changing the name of the Ratings the only way the new name is saved is to select another rating name.  For instance, if I want to change "Good" to "Bad", after making the change I need to select "Fair" before hitting SAVE. If I just go right to SAVE it will NOT save the new name.

2.  When saving a TEMPLATE (which is the only time I see the following option) and I check the box to make it the new DEFAULT template, the selection does not keep.  Opening HIP the next time still has the original DEFAULT opening and not the one I selected.

3.  If I move the DEFAULT template out of the data folder and then I open HIP the program will partially open and then freeze up.  This is the same behavior I see if I try to change the Template names in the Finder and not through the Save AS in the program.

Hi Julian,

Thanks for the input, it's always appreciated!

You are correct about item 1, you need to exit the rating by moving to another before saving. I'll look into updating this for the next version.

I haven't heard of anyone else having a problem making a template the default though. I tried it right now and it worked ok. Make the name of the template you want to save is open and selected when you go to save template, then check the box and click save. Are any of the other Mac guys having an issue with this? A workaround would be to save your template as DefaultTemplate overwriting the original. You shouldn't have to do this as the set as default should work, but it will cover you in the meantime until I can see what the issue is.

Whatever template you have selected as the default must be in the Data folder as the program relies on opening the default template when the program loads to create the menus. Also, don't rename files manually (client data and pdf's you can) as the program actually references file names internally. For example if you renamed a document then the template isn't going to be able to access it under the old name as it won't know about the change. You want to do that from within the program.

I tried to save my template as the default and it is not working.  Steps Taken:
1. Open HIP
2. Open My Template
3. Make changes (also did this WITHOUT making changes with same result)
4. Select Save Template
5. Select check box
6. Quit HIP
7. Open HIP
8. Original Default opens

The only thing I did not try yet is to select Save AS... instead.  I will give that a try.  I understand that saving as DefaultTemplate should work, but I would rather help you resolve this bug.

OK that was quick.

If I try to SAVE AS... and change the name then select the check box the popup window asks if I want to make the ORIGINAL FILE NAME highlighted in the top window the Default.  So it does not seem to look at the new FILENAME just the one in the above list.

Hey Julian,

Those are the steps. I'm guessing it must be an issue on the mac end, but I don't see why. I don't have a Mac with Leopard on it here at work, I left it at home last night as I was working on the latest on it. I'm going to email a few of the other guys and see if it works for them and try to replicate the issue when I get home. If I can replicate it, then it's usually easy to fix!

I appreciate the help bug hunting. Do you want to be added to our beta testers list? Mac users only make up 20% of our beta testers right now so we don't get quite as much feedback as we do on the windows end. 98% of the code between the two is identical but since Apple is in charge of making their own version of Java and they have interpreted some items differently than intended, we have to work around things at times. One of the biggest examples of this is the tabs. In windows if you are in an area with more tabs than will fit across the screen, they will wrap to the next line, making it quick to switch between tabs. On Mac the exact same code creates a drop down box with all the tabs that are greater than the row. There have been MANY complaints to Apple about this but they refuse to change it as they feel it's not Mac's style of doing things.

Thanks again,
 Dominic

Ok, we cross posted there. So did you get it to work if you clicked on the filename in the list?

'Save Template As' under the File menu is actually the same as clicking on Save Template button on the main window. We changed this to prevent guys from accidentally saving over the wrong template.

Sure put me on the BETA list.  One of my previous jobs was to find bugs in software, so I can usually find something.  Grin

No, selecting from the list still did not fix the problem.  The pop up indicates the "proper" file I want to set, the program just seems to forget that I set the check box once I quit.

Will definitely add you to the list. It's very interesting the number of inspectors we have using Home Inspector Pro with a technology background, many of them even programmers. I know of guys from Cisco, HP, IBM and other companies. I guess they reached a point they wanted to get out of the office and into the field, and I can't blame them!
