Web Site Design & SEO / Website Design Questions / Re: Multiple domain name

Hi Mike,
There's really no reason except to keep a competitor from buying it. It has no actual search engine optimization benefit to you. If you were to buy another domain name you'd be better off choosing one large city around you and getting cityhomeinspector.com

Home Inspector Pro Software / Template Design / Re: Invoice

Lol, funny David. Got a ton of new features we're working on But a lot right now is going into the new Texas regulations requiring a new form by February 1 so some of the other things have temporarily been put on hold. I could make it so you could open a client file from the separate uploader program (Jon, this is only used if you're uploading something other than the inspection report) then it populates the client data automatically. Jon, when you put the data into the program it's automatically put into the contract as well. So you'd only need to enter the data once. We will be adding an invoice feature into the program (though Dave's solution here is very useful as well) but not a full fledged accounting program. There are billion dollar companies out there like Quicken that make awesome software (Quickbooks) and our commitment is to making the best inspection software there is, not compete with them. What we can do (and have planned) is to make an export feature so you can export the data directly into Quickbooks. This will make it so you could pull the data directly into their program and not have to enter in anything twice.

Hi Jon,
If you're running Windows Vista make sure you have it running as administrator. Right click on the program icon on the desktop, click properties, compatibility and run as Administrator. Then go into the program and hit open template.
Let me know if that works ok for you!

Web Site Design & SEO / Search Engine Optimization / Re: Sharing your site blog with technorati

Do we have to "ping" technorati each time we add a blog entry? They offer some html code, but where would we put that?
Go into edit Click on "Source" Put the code at the bottom of the blog Click on "Source" again Click "Submit" Then Technorati should have a verify button for you click. John, you could create a block that only appears on the blog pages, that would probably be the simplest.

Web Site Design & SEO / Search Engine Optimization / Re: Inspector list for link exchange

Julian,
Yes and I started on the solution, I just haven't had time to finish it up as I've been working on the program. I have some pressing deadlines with the new Texas format being required by Feb 1 and am also in the middle of adding features that have to be complete before I can release the update. This includes tighter integration with the software, websites and credit cards. I'll get the links going soon too.

You can merge the NPMA33 form with your inspection report as an addendum and even upload it using our separate upload service program (won't work through the main program yet). We will be integrating the NPMA33 soon and have a drawing feature in the works as well for sketching a home out.

Web Site Design & SEO / Search Engine Optimization / Re: I'm Ranked!!!

Just shy of 5 years.
I do a Google search on "their name" or "theirdomain.com" (with the quotes. It is a quick and dirty way to see who is linking to a site.
Go to yahoo and type, link:www.yoursite.com , Google only displays sites over a Page Rank of 4. What terms are you using to see their is higher. Look at their page title, description and keywords as well as the content on the page.

Directory listings - Is it worth it to pay for listings in those cheap directories? Are these considered high quality inbound links?
I'm trying to compete with a local company that gets a very high generic ranking by Google for many different keywords. I'm trying to figure out what he has done to rank so high. (the site is not that good) The only thing I can find are a lot of inbound links to his site by a bunch of pay to play directories.
Never pay for directory listings, google frowns on pain inbound links. The only exception are specific HI directories like homeinspections-usa that might actually bring you inspections. There are plenty of directories out there you can add your site to for free.

Home Inspector Pro Software / Beta Testers & New Feature Discussion / Re: Suggestion for HIP addition
|
on: January 03, 2009, 01:54:31 AM

Could an action like this create unwanted comments, say for instance if a different selection panel item were chosen it would populate the damage area with the wrong, and maybe irrelevant comment? Believe me in my mind I have a point here! I myself, am not sure what I have posted. Well if it populated unwanted comments then it wouldn't be working right!! It's a good idea and I can see the usefulness of it. It's also not going to be an easy thing to do as there will have to be a link created between selection panel and damage panel comments, which their currently isn't. I've added it into the growing book of features to add. I encourage more input on this and other features. I don't want feature bloat in HIP, so anything that gets added needs to have a good number of guys backing it.
