Let's get this started. You guys should be swapping links with each other (listing each other's sites on your site) as the more people linking to your site from a home inspection site, the better your rankings will be. People linking to you is half of the reason Google and the other search engines use to decide whose site should come up on top.

So post here if you want to swap your sites link. Check back option to make sure you have everyone's else's site listed and let people know you're up to date.

List your company name AND the top 3 locations you serve: i.e: My Company name : Serving Los Angeles, Glendora and Rancho cucamonga and list your website url. When you are adding other sites via the Create Content:Link, you are asked for the site name, description and url.

oK, next question... lets say I have 50 links for exchange and I have all the meta tags, keywords and urls to do. Whew... thats alot of seo to think about.... I have been mixing it up between cities, real estate, property, home, commercial, inspection and so on. Does this sound right Dominic?

Doing SEO for the links themselves is optional, of course every bit you do helps. So yes, renaming those url's so they have friendly names including home inspector in them and inspections will help you out (and the person you're linking to). It's not going to hurt your site to not perform SEO on the link pages, but if you do it ye shall be rewarded.

I manually approve all submissions as about half of them are automated porn bots linking to adult sites. Your site should be up and linked now.

Steven, you had disabled the Links menu item so I enabled it for you. Also, when adding other peoples sites you need to make sure and select a category for them to go into in the drop down box. You can fix the ones your already added by clicking on Content and clicking on Edit next to their link.

Email me about the other site you want to get moved over. I can setup a temporary site for you if you want to move your content over first before you shut it down.

Now I see that when I put the co name and area in the title box. and the web address in the url box, the submit... it works fine, except the area serving shows up duplicated. when I eliminate the area serving from the title, it doesn't show up at all.

I linked with a fellow inspector that I think is one of your testers, (Aram Sargisean, GLP's Home Inspection)for the link/categories change. How will we move them when thats ready to go, cut & Paste?, something easy I hope. We have about 45 links to do. Should I hold off for awhile or keep linking?

You have a new menu item under Administration I added called Link Categories. You can now make as many as you want, and nest them as well. If anyone else is ready for that option let me know. I already have it in the templates for the new sites but I have to go back to add it to the others and I'm trying to finish up some other things first. You can easily move sites around just by clicking Content, Edit next to the sites name and change the category and save.

I figured out how to make an new category.
example: Real Estate Appraisers

I only had one Real Estate Appraiser so far, how do I move him from "other" where he now to the new category, "Real Estate Appraisers"?

Also, Lets say I wanted for now, to have all the "home inspector websites" in the alphabetical nest I have them now but want also to do states in alpha. order and move them to their respective states: Alabama, Calif. Conn. etc.   
What is the easiest, fastest way to move them?

Hi Dave,

Click Content, click on the link you want, and change the category and it will move. Right now you couldn't list them in two different ways without listing them twice. That's something I could add in the future.

By the way, when I type Staten Island or Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Bronx or LOng Island Eifs Inspector in my browser, my site comes up number one. In most cases, with my other participation in other forums, I come up 2,3 and 4 too.

I just tried staten island eifs inspector again.

8 out of the first 10 refer to me. The first two are with my new website that you helped me build.

Last week I found where a fellow inspector had cut & pasted his links on the NACHI message board for other inspectors. I must have linked at least 15-20 of these guys, contacted them requesting they do same and probably only heard back from about 3 of them. I'm going to contact them again this week to remind them but if they don't get back to me, I'll delete them as links. If they do not put me on as a link on their website, it does me ZERO good, Right?

Correct. If they aren't linking back to you it won't help you at all so remove them.

Tutorial coming up soon. Basically you Create->Weblink. I'll have the step by step in a few minutes, I was working on it last night but made a few changes to the system as well to improve it.

Thanks Dave.  By the way, I am LLC.  I have only had a website for 5 weeks or so.  Still furiously trying to improve it and very new at this.  Still learning tricks, like linking.  So, the more the merrier apparently.  But it seems there has to be reciprocation.

Jay, just start adding everyone in the thread that's posted above you. In a month check their sites and see if they've linked back. If not send them a polite pm or email asking to link back to you. If in the end they don't, then just remove them. This is a big family though, everyone's going to link to everyone that posts in the thread as long as they can figure out how :D

Ideally when you link someone, a faster way to do it is have your page open on your site, minimize it and when you go to the fellow inspectors info on this message board or NACHI's, highlight and copy their info (ideally their company name, their url and the area they serve) and then after you click "copy" go to the page on your site that you already have opened and right click in the "big box" in the center of that page.
All the info will be there now,  and now you can copy and paste the company name up to the top of the page and then the url in the next box and then when those two are done you can simply highlight and delete the two you just moved and leave the "area served" info. If they dont say what area they serve but you know from the other info that they are in Dallas for instance, just write "Serving the Greater Dallas Area". Then choose "Home Inspector Websites", click "Submit" and their link will show up by itself as a link, and while it's right there in front of you click on "visit their website" and make sure it goes there and your done. Then I usually copy the url address thats in the top box of my browser, send them a note and say "heres where you can find your website as my link" or some thing to that affect. One thing I learned if you email them to let them know you have them as a link on your site is to note on your email to them the name of their company, because most of the time they reply on the same email and you cant tell who they are unless you have noted their company name on the original message.

Years ago we had some Korean friends.  They had us over to dinner periodically (about burned out my insides with some wonderfully spicy food...) and taught us some phrases.  I think my above words, horribly misspelled to be sure, mean "welcome, thank you."  Pretty sneaky - unless they faked us out and taught us some really bad stuff!  Those, by the way, are the only words I remember.  Unless that's just what I WANT you to think...

Sorry Jay, I thought I had done that for you already! I just added it in for you, under link categories.

If there's anyone else who needs that let me know. Everyone who I've set up over the past 2 weeks shouldn't have a problem as I wrote a new feature that allows me to edit all the admin menus at once on the new server. On the other sites I have to do it manually until I can go back and update them with the new code.

So it has been 2 weeks since I added everyone to my site.  As of now I have linked to 14 sites but only 2 of you have linked back. :'(  I will not say who here, but I will be sending out reminder emails tomorrow.

The usual - late from work to Scouts.  Late from Scouts to the All Star game.  Watching now.  Long day...  again...

Scouts? What Tribe? Isn't that dangerous?

It is dangerous!  Remember, Clinton branded the Boy Scouts a "hate group."  We do not let homosexuals or pedophiles be Scout leaders* and we exclude girls - imagine that...    More than that, we use the word God in our oath, so now the Boy Scouts are not allowed to use "public" land for camping (never mind that we are the public too...).  Somehow Boy Scouts camping on "public" land is a contravention of church and state.  Oh, and it's not a tribe, it's a troop.  I am Scoutmaster and counselor for 11 merit badges, and have been involved with the Scouts one way or another since 1962.  It IS dangerous, to people like the Klintonistas or the Dali Bama.  But, despite all our hate, we have a good time.  We just got back from one week at Goshen Scout Camp in Virginia.  All my boys got at least 4 merit badges.  Had them down at the shooting and archery ranges every day for Rifle, Shotgun and Archery merit badges.  Yepper, bringing them up right...!  By the way, those badges are NOT easy.  And we had a rattlesnake we caught for dinner one night - BIG sucker - and yes, it tastes like chicken, though not stringy.  And didn't lose a single boy in that huge lake, well, this time...  Answer your question?

*  They decided it would be okay to allow such leaders in Boy Scouts of Canada a few years ago.  The organization has completely fallen apart.  One wonders if that was not the intention all along...

Good Work! With the way the world is, young people need programs like yours. Gives them some good experience on how be a good human being.
That tornado in Iowa was just about 40-50 miles straight west of my wife & my home town, (Denison Ia.) That was bad! Good talking to you again, hows the market where you are? things are slowly picking up in the Denver area.

Hi Mark - What I was suggesting to you was that if my info on your site is hard to change that you simply delete it and start again.  While in your site just click on Northern Virginia and the edit feature should pop up.  Then you can delete it.  Instead of what you have, my stuff should read:

Heres what I do, I put together my stuff and saved it on my computer in "microsoft word" and named it "link content".
Then when I post it on a message board like this one, I just go to that and copy and paste in on the message board. (to copy and paste, just hold down the left button on your cursor, highlight the content you want, go up to the top of your main browser, click on "edit", click on "copy", then go to where you want to paste it and right click your mouse, click "paste" and it should appear.

Now the guy who wants to link me can copy and paste everything you see here and paste it in the main box of the page where you are creating the link. Then you use the same process to copy the company name and paste it in the top box, copy and paste the url, (http://www.denversbesthomeinspector.com). Then when you have those two up into the appropriate boxes, highlight both of them and hit delete and keep hitting delete until the rest of the content moves up to the top of the box.

Copy this and print it until youve got it down. When someone has all the info like I have shown above, I can link them in 3 or 4 minutes. The key is to make sure they have all the info so they dont have to go back and ask you for it, cuz many might not take the time.

Yeh Bill, if you link someone and they don't link you back it does nothing for your SEO ratings.
What I have done in the past is make sure you get them to acknowledge that you have them linked and check back on their site a few days or a week later. If they have not linked you when you check back, email them and remind them again and if they don't respond in a reasonable amount of time go back to your link page and delete them. There are many guy's that are more than willing to take the time to link so I dont waste my time with those who are not.  ;D

Yeah, I just went through all the sites I linked and most of them hadn't linked me.  I emailed 5 of them to ask them to link me.  Two don't even have a link feature on their site, they will get deleted from mine soon.  And another 5 had no contact email, so I could email them.
